I know it's Illinois and all, but Kinkaid is located in the "Illinois Ozarks" and shares a lot of the same sorts of qualities with the Missouri Ozark lakes, like being deep, relatively clear, rocky, etc.

I've been reading that there is an ongoing experimental smallmouth stocking project that started back in 2005 with a small number of smallmouth fingerlings. Then in 2006 and 2007 over 7000 were stocked again. In 2010 they received word that their first "keeper" 16" smallie was caught, so they are growing well. Kinkaid has been known for being stocked with a flourishing muskie population that has been known to grow very large fish, as well as an average walleye stocking program.

Anyone been to Kinkaid and caught smallmouth? It's a nice lake although I haven't been down there since I was a kid. I'm betting that given a few more years of growth and some good spawn seasons Kinkaid should be a pretty good smallmouth lake.

I need to talk my uncle into taking me down there since where we usually fish in the Kaskaskia river at New Athens is all blown out right now.

Saluki is right on, Kincaid not only is a great lake for multi species, it is also flat out beautiful.

If you fish a larger boat avoid launching at Ava, if you have a small boat I. Would suggest Ava- less congested.

Kincaid is beautiful- no doubt about it,

The crappie...... HHUUGGEE.. (If you are into crappie)

I don't bother with the lake on weekends, unless I am out at daylight and off the water by 10 or so. Too many pleasure boaters and wake boats to fish the way I want to.

That's a shame. They should go over to Crab Orchard to do that stuff...
