Justin Spencer Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Finally getting some rain here and looks like more this week. River now running slightly above normal, fish should be eating. 3 more crazy weekends and the fishermen should get their rivers back. Wayne SW/MO Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 The outfitters on the Niangua where dead in the water yesterday, money gone down the river and irretrievable. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
dennis boatman Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 ...and it's still rising...Good news, I have noticed a big jump in size of fish this year with all the water, not length so much, but thickness of fish, though I have caught my biggest Brown and Rainbow in the last 2 weeks...this fall and winter should be great fishing... A strike indicator is just a bobber...
Justin Spencer Posted August 6, 2013 Author Posted August 6, 2013 I much prefer drought, looking like I won't be buying many new canoes next year, if I lose this weekend I may need a job, this would be the third lost weekend of the summer if it doesn't quit raining. Coldspring Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 How big was the hole washed out of Dawt Dam? It seems people are programmed to get excited about rain, until they lose the ability to get down the highway, get flooded, or lose power. I particularly love the social media posts about how excited they are to get 3 inches of rain in their rain gauge during the time they enjoy a sandwich for lunch, and their biggest concern is emptying the rain gauge so it doesn't overfill.

Hate to pee in your cheerios but I've seen this before on your favorite river. The trout bite on the Niangua is probably gonna suck after this major flush of warm water. A cool rise might have been good, but I'm about 90% sure that this warm flood will pretty much wipe 'em out.
SmallyWally Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Girlfriend and I took a road trip out to visit areas around North Fork and Bryant. Wow...what a mess. Got brave and drove down to Hebron Access. First time seeing both waters and man were they moving. Suppose we will have to go back in the future to see how nice they really are. Brian Wise Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 How big was the hole washed out of Dawt Dam? We hit 10,000 cfs again last night.....I am betting the hole got a little bigger but here is a screenshot from my phone of Dawt's Twitter photo: My Youtube Channel

Given the fact it's been as dry as the Mojave on my ridge the last two years I get really excited about it. Big trees are expensive to bring down when the drought kills them. Bring on the rain and I'll keep emptying my gauge. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
