Members Flyfsh Posted July 25, 2013 Author Members Posted July 25, 2013 I floated yesterday afternoon. We saw 1 small school of about 5 just below the Log House when they started generating. They were the only ones I saw yesterday. They started running about 3pm. It turned out to be a great day on the water. Jim
nathanhooper Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 So what does a stunned shad do? Do they float to the top and wiggle around?
exiledguide Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 F& F Never thought about the effect of the cold water on the shad. I was told it was the shad pulled into the lake by generation. that were killed or stunned that brought the Stripers and the Walleye up to Carpenter Dam on Lake Catherine Now when I targeted Stripers I never caught one over the 7 or 8 lb range but when I fished for Rainbows on Catherine I would use a 1/8oz gold Acme Castmaster spoon on 4lb mono and would hook much bigger Stripers or Walleye and every once in a while I would get a look at them before they broke my line. They never seemed to hurt the trout population and while I was living there a 16lb plus Wally and a 50 lb striper were taken from as close to the dam as you were allowed have your boat and both caught on crank baits by guys fishing for Large mouth with crank baits. I still believe Catherine was one of the best Lakes I've ever fished. in the Mid west or Mid South.
Feathers and Fins Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Nathan they act like a bachelor party by about 1am after hitting every bar in town. EG; here is something odd, I have never seen trout go after the shad below Houseman for some reason when the cold hits them. Yet above houseman its a feeding frenzy at times. The real cool thing is when you see the shad and the big marks on the graph you know what they are but will not bite until it happens. All I can think is there is something in the water that the trout don't like lol. Now when they generate and shad are pulled through the trout go ape crazy and my favorite two flies are a fish skin imitation or a white woolybug. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

Feathers and Fins Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Yes below the dam on Beaver Lake and all the way to Holiday Island. Water depth can vary from 2ft to 30ft in the stretch https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
