Members Brownie Whisperer Posted July 30, 2013 Members Posted July 30, 2013 I stumbled accross this sight VIA another board, and thought i'd share it. This company sells the components for you to build your own "pole anchor" for under 50 bucks.... at that price it might be worth trying??? I want a pair for my cat fish boat. I feel they would be benificial when trying to set up and cast to submerged creek chanels for blues etc when there isn't much for an anchor to grab on... And i also think that it could be very useful to a canoeist / kyaker, to have the pole available when you need it to stop and fish a likley looking spot without having to paddle back up and trying again?? The company is called MAX-GAIN SYSTEMShttp://www.mgs4u.com/shallow-water-boat-anchors.htm 3/4" Off-white 2.80 8' Off-white RSR-34-8W $16.00 Most popular size, White 3/4" Black 2.80 8' Black RSR-34-8B $16.00 Most popular size, Black 3/4" CAMO 2.80 8' Camo RSR-34-8CAMO $29.95 New muddy water CAMO pattern for our most popular size
jdmidwest Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Nice. I still think I can fab one for a kayak out of PVC with all of the ideas on this site. Doubt if it would hold a big boat. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 JD the best yak anchor, IMO, is a #3 barbell from Walmart. The trick is to tie a loop around the hand grip so that the rope will pull to the end. This forces the bell into the gravel. If you use floating rope you can run a loop at the bow, then using a brass snap with a swivel fasten the snap onto the rope loop and run you anchor line trough the swivel loop. If you have a problem you let the rope go and pull away fro it then paddle back to work it from the seat. Clear as mud? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
jdmidwest Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 I was thinking about the rod idea for duck hunting. Normally we just sit in the boats shallow enough where they touch the bottom and it keeps us anchored. But there are times that the water is about waist deep, the rods stuck in the mud would make a good stable anchor. An anchor on a rope lets the boat pivot too much to be of any use, you almost have to use a 2 pt system. For the most part, I don't anchor the yak. I use moss beds, trees, or swing my feet over the side and hold the boat while I fish. Anchor rope is just something else to snag on bringing a fish in. For the bass boat, that system would work great also and several hundred dollars less than a power anchor in shallow water. Would not work too good in a gravel or rock bottom like a stream I am guessing. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
fishinwrench Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Having 5ft. of fiberglass pole vertically fore and aft would hinder my sidearm casting and sidesweep hooksets. I'd invariably bust a rod on it.
