Members WOZ Posted August 1, 2013 Members Posted August 1, 2013 I have float tube and a pontoon and am looking for lakes that won't have a lot of big boats to swamp me near St. Louis. Mainly going for trout but would consider other species. Any help is appreciated! And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth. Then he made the earth round...... And he laughed and laughed and laughed....
moguy1973 Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 I don't think any of the St. Louis parks allow float tubes. In fact, only a few allow boats w/trolling motors (Simpson park, Creve Couer, Unger Park). -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
rainbow Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Go to Mark Twain during the week and you will be fine. I don't any lakes you can tube in around STL.
Members WOZ Posted August 2, 2013 Author Members Posted August 2, 2013 Thanks guys! Somewhat disappointed that my options are limited. Too spoiled by Oregon.... rainbow Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 you can always go on the Mississippi River above Alton. Some good tubing water up there above where the Golden Eagle crosses. Lot's of sand bars to hang out on.
gramps50 Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 What about George Winter park? I know it's not a good place on the weekend for fishing as the boats and jet skies are all over the place but during the week before 1 Pm it isn't bad at all. When the jet skies show up I normally load up and go home. Would think that a person could tube in the big river around here.
moguy1973 Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I guess I forgot about Lincoln County Lake. It's at Cuiver River State Park about an hour north of St. Louis in Troy. It's as close to an Ozark style lake as you can get north of the Missouri River. Nice fairly clear deep lake. I'm fairly certain you can put a tube or pontoon up there. It's all trolling motor only so no big boat traffic. No trout but decent bass fishing. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

grizwilson Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Check Busch Wildlife and Lone Elk no trout but decent fishing. http://www.stlouisco.com/ParksandRecreation/MapsFacts/FishingLocations http://www.stlouisco.com/ParksandRecreation/ParkPages/LoneElk http://mdc4.mdc.mo.gov/applications/moatlas/AreaSummaryPage.aspx?txtAreaID=4901 “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
gramps50 Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 I don't think you can fish the lake in Lone Elk Park, it's by permit only or something like that.
