dennis boatman Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I am not a huge spoon fisherman, but recently was bored, and tied one on and immediately my day got better. It was a hot afternoon on the river and fishing was very average. I didn't catch anything big, but12" smallmouth were really on it. Spoons seem to be mostly a lake bait, and I was wondering if anyone else has tried them on river smallmouth? I know I'll be experimenting more, as soon as the rivers go down some...... A strike indicator is just a bobber...
Hog Wally Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 You are onto a great bite That's all I will say
jdmidwest Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Looks like a little minner. Bass love them. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Mitch f Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I was forced to use a blade bait (silver buddy) in the Clarion River in Pennsylvania while at a job site. A guy let me use his rod and the only 2 lures he had were silver buddys. I actually caught quite a few nice smallies. It was mid winter too. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Chief Grey Bear Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I don't use spoons on the river but I am a fan of Chrome colored cranks. And they seem to work better later in the afternoon. A chrome Hot N Tot is a must in any tackle box. Brownies love'em! Members Rustynuts Posted August 12, 2013 Members Posted August 12, 2013 I didn't know spoons were lake baits. Have had great success on very blue bright days in the fast sections with a Little Cleo 1/8 oz gold spoon.
