jdmidwest Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 When I waded thru my garden yesterday, fighting skeeters along the way, I noticed that most of my tomato vines have turned yellow and are dying. Could it be the lack of heat, extreme moisture in a time that is normally dry, and lack of sunshine? The rest of the garden is suffering too. Okra looks fine, no okra. Cucumbers are mildewing and failing rapidly. Squash is still looking fine, squash bugs must be drowning, normally they are chewing up the plant this time of year, pumpkins suck, waste of space. How is everyone's garden doing now, during the monsoon? "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
ness Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 We're not getting nearly as much rain as you guys are, but getting some. It's been relatively cool too. Things kinda shut down for me several weeks ago, but are picking back up with lots of blossoms on the maters and peppers. A few getting picked, but not much. Pole beans were overcome with wilt or something. Need to pull them out and start thinking ahead to fall. John
Quillback Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 I planted some winter squash for the first time, squash bugs have torn it up, I've never seen them so bad. Squirrels have done a number on my maters, I've trapped and relocated 7 so far, but more just keep showing up. The mater plants are doing fine and I get a mater or two in spite of the squirrels. Cukes have done well, but are starting to fade.
tippet7 Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 our tomato plants are doing the same thing. our cucumbers are growing to about 2-3 inches then they get a "ball" type growth to them. any ideas on what is up with that? still getting plenty of okra and cherry tomatos. big boy and roma have just kind of stopped producing. we FINALLY got some poblano peppers. the plant has grown to almost 6 ft and just in the last week or so the first peppers have shown up, there are a total of 6 on the vine last time i looked on thursday. You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
Quillback Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 About the only good thing I can say is that I haven't had to do any watering for a few weeks now.
