Members BHowe Posted August 14, 2013 Members Posted August 14, 2013 I was wondering if anybody has been catching any big catfish (30 plus) yet. I reckon they should be coming off the beds anytime now or might have already done so. I fished about two weeks ago and didn't catch anything over 3 or 4 pounds. I didn't move to the lake and start fishing cats until Sept last year and was just wondering if they start biting around here a little earlier than that. Any info would be welcome
fishinwrench Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Did some dip-bait fishing for post-flood eater sized channels and had 3 really good days before the area we were in went cold. Lots of eggs still in the females we cleaned. I was really surprised that they hadn't spawned out already.
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I wonder if they will now? Aren't they about a month overdue? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Old plug Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I will have to check my deep hump maybe this evening and see if there is any activity down there i use spoons to catch my catfish.
fishinwrench Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I wonder if they will now? Aren't they about a month overdue? Seems about a month late to me, but the eggs were firm and bright so I dunno.

Fishslayer88 Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 As of last week our females had big orange eggs and the bite was slow and lite. I was using 3-5 inch green sunfish and cut shad the only 3 cats i caught were on the shad smallest was about 4lb biggest was rite at 10.
Old plug Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Yeah wrench I went out there. It is deep one I mentioned to you. There were suspended fish. They were mostly shad. The fish that were suspending looked more like drum and other rough fish to me because they were not not in schools. This paticular hump is 30 ft right now. I have been watching for trollers both here and down on on Gibson. I have not seen but one person on either one this week in the evenings. And have not seen but one are two in a long time. I did not try try to any of them. There has also been a big drop off in schooling shad back in the coves and even the gar are not rolling. So something has changed. Very still dead feeling to it out there. I think we are in for a slow few days maybe. I am going to use the period to get stared on grounding my dock and putting in some of the things they are raving about. I have GFI protection allready and I test for electricsl leakage regularly. But i do want to install that cut off post, grounding rod, breaker and ground the dock frame to it.
