Members Teddy Posted August 20, 2013 Members Posted August 20, 2013 Will be coming down labor day to do bass fishing. I will either put in at PB2 or at 13 mile marker on big niangua. Any help would be appretiated.
Jbrant Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I'm headed down this weekend too. Haven't been in a couple of months though. I'll be around the 50 MM - guessing its muddy.
WHARFRAT Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Water is not bad on the Big Niangua, Just a lot of floating sticks, logs and other depris. Can't help much on bass fishing. But have been catching a few crappie by shooting the deep shade of docks. Fish don't seem to be that deep right now. Seems like I was catching them about 4-5 ft down.. Occasional walleye too. Now that being said, temp is going to be 10-15 degrees warmer than last week, so this may drive them down a little more. Normally I catch a few bass doing this around the docks, but not a one this time. White bass were busting some shad in the coves, managed a few, nothing big, but fun anyway. @lozcrappie Â
MOsmallies Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I'l be down that weekend as well (25 MM). That time of year, I'm usually throwing a 10" worm, baby brush hog, football jig, a deep diving crankbait, and I usually have a buzzbait or wtd topwater tied on for early mornings and evenings. We're targeting mainlake and secondary points, bluff ends, rip rap banks, and deep brush next to docks. I'm hoping to do a little night fishing this year despite some lack luster reports I've been hearing. I've picked up some War Eagle (black nighttime special) spinnerbaits and Berkley crazy leg chigger craws (Black Neon) to try. Mix in a black 10" worm, a black jitterbug, and a black buzzbait, and I'm hoping to catch one or two. Paul MOsmallies
Ed Franko Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Fishing here at the lake is tough both night and day. The small bass and a mix of whites can be found in the backs of coves chasing shad. As far as the water conditions the lake is up a little and it has lots of floating junk. Be real careful at night because there is stuff big enough to crunch your boat. The fishing has been diffrent all year and changes daily. Water temp low 80s ..... The lake is clear for Lake Ozark Standards...... The lake has been on the rise..... Small Shad are everywhere..... Fishing is great...... Catching not so good... Fish early or fish late.............. Just go fishing and have a good time ... Be Careful!!! I would key in on brush in the 15ft range and cover it real good with a big worm. Watch for the chasers and throw a chug bug or a spook at them. Have a good time and enjoy the lake! Big Ed.
fishinwrench Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 I have been finding it a challenge to even catch short bass lately. It's gotta be the insane amount of 2" shad available now. They are EVERYWHERE and all a fish has to do to fill its belly is to open its mouth.
Members Lobsterol Posted August 25, 2013 Members Posted August 25, 2013 NIGHT TIME IS THE BEST TIME TO FISH IN THE SUMMER, ESPECIALY DURING LABOR DAY WEEKEND. THE BIG BOATS ARE OUT CRUSING STARTING AT 9:00 AM SO YOU'LL NEED TO BE CAREFUL IF YOUR FISHING DURING THE DAY. VERY BIG WAVES AND DRUNKE DRIVERS OPERATING LARGE BOATS. I WOULDN'T START FISHING UNTIL ABOUT 7:30 PM AND FISH AS LONG AS YOU CAN STAY AWAKE. SINGLE BLADE THUMPER SPINNER BAITS, LARGE PLASTIC WORMS WITH A RATTLE INSERTED AND CHOMPERS IS WHAT I WOULD HAVE TIED ON. GOOD LUCK.
Old plug Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Well I am going to hit it about 5or 6 pm and i will be going to 20 ft or better on break and ledges with a heavy drop shot rig with maybe a 7" worm on it. I think the heat will drive them own there.
Members Teddy Posted August 27, 2013 Author Members Posted August 27, 2013 Will be down on Friday. I think I will take your advise and fish evenings. Any Help this weekend would be great. Thanks for the input. David
Old plug Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Well ith the heat boat traffic and what else you will have this weekend i would say take your worm up to party cove and wee if you can can catch something. And if that dont work go to COCOs on the gravois and try the same thing.
