Members MarkinKC Posted August 22, 2013 Members Posted August 22, 2013 I look forward to some C&R flyfishing for trout around the Labor Day holiday. I will be wading and know what to do if there's not much generation. However, if the water is really running where can a guy go to wade? In the past I've run over to Crane or up to Bennett Spring. Is there someplace closer I can do some fishing without leaving the area or calling it a day? (Limited time - wife is only entertained so long by the outlet malls.) Thanks!
Travis Swift Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 They are usually pretty good about not running much water if any at all on labor day weekend especially with the lake levels back down.
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Roaring River is closer than Bennett. It also has a C&R section that Bennett lacks, unfortunatly. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Terrierman Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Capps Creek is nice too if you insist on trout fishing. There are a lot of options to wade and fish for smallmouth bass.
Members MarkinKC Posted August 23, 2013 Author Members Posted August 23, 2013 Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll cross my fingers that they will give us a break over the holiday with the generation. I have fished both Capps and RR a couple of times each so will use them as my back-up plan. I didn't realize there were smallmouth in Capps. No smallmouth in my neck of the woods but I suppose jigs or plastics would entice them if they are biting?
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 23, 2013 Root Admin Posted August 23, 2013 The water was off all morning this morning. I'd say good chance you'll see down water over the holiday.
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Marvin I think Terrierman was speaking to the many wading opportunities for smallies in the immediate area. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
