Members skeet88bt Posted August 27, 2013 Members Posted August 27, 2013 Seeing as Beaver doesn't have any grass to speak of...Will it work? What conditions and where? Just curious to hear some testimonials. I myslf have only fished it in ponds but there are frogs on beaver too so I dont see why it wouldn't work...? Thoughts.
Feathers and Fins Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 In timber when the lake hits 1115 or lower in the early morning or late afternoon. Also good in buckbrush. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Members skeet88bt Posted August 27, 2013 Author Members Posted August 27, 2013 Thanks F & F good info. I am going to start throwing it some just to see what happens. I could see in the spring where it would be a useful tool in log jams because it comes through junk really well.
Quillback Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Definitely around flooded buck brush. There's usually a fall top water bite, might be worth a shot.
J-Doc Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Go buy a Live Target frog, throw it near trees, lay downs, etc. Watch the sun perch and baby bass beat it like it owed them money! Lol! Little rascals can't get their little mouths around it to take it down. Might drive you nuts with all the strikes and no takers but eventually, you will get lucky and a bigger fish will take it. Not a numbers catcher though. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. Members skeet88bt Posted August 28, 2013 Author Members Posted August 28, 2013 Quil, I absolutely love the fall topwater bite and dont know if I can put my buzzbait down long enough to give it a chance! haha. J-Doc, I have never fished with a live target before I will for sure have to try that out. I hate PERCH! Jeb, I could definently see in the spring time where it would shine. Especially when the water is up! Quick report....Fished the Hickory Creek jackpot last night with little success. Caught alot of short kentuckies and blacks. Had 2 for 3lb and some change and was only 1 place out of the money. It is really tough out there! I think 10lbs won....then 5lb....and 4lb something. We ran up war eagle and cranked some spots and threw spook and buzzbait. Our 2 keepers came after dark on a spinnerbait and a hair jig 10-12' of water.
J-Doc Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 I'd say hair jig, shakey head centepede worm, and c-rig would be top producer on a slow bite. If the bite was active, crank and spinnerbait would be what I'd throw. I wouldn't waste my time on top water unless there is a top water bite with active feeding surface bites. Yeah, I'll have to try my Live Target frog in the fall. Could be fun. So small I have to use a spinning rod to cast it. I use the smaller one. Finesse Kermit! Lol Need marine repair? Lol I was on a real nice c-rig bit up by the dam a few weeks ago but haven't got to get out since then. I love topwater and always feel like if I can catch one good one right before dark I will be happy. It is hard for me to put it down but I believe you are right. The best bet is to keep a spoon tied on or a spook that you can make a long cast with. I try to keep a spoon tied on with braided line so there is no stretch on long casts. And on the finesse kermit....I am not sure I am ready to break out the fairy wand to throw that thing,....lol
Sore Thumbs Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Early this spring when the water was up there were several areas with submerged grass in the War Eagle arm. When I webt there was nothing but carp in there. I had never seen conditions for a frog that good. Acres and acres if submerged grass. I will be trying again next spring.
