9LB Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 I agree chestnut, I am pretty sure I have read your posts on the Rock forum as well. I was a little intimidated by Table Rock until I started reading the forum. My first trip I just did what the folks on the forum said to do and had a wonderful day of smallmouth fishing. Because of the forum I know fish both lakes and simply LOVE fishing the Rock. The guides on Table Rock pretty much keep you posted on key things. Lure, Depth and technique. If you tell me that I can catch em. I will post regularly as I already do. I am a new Basser. I am from northern Michigan so i fish smallies but new to the LM and kentucky thing. But I am addicted !
9LB Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Last year late october and early November was game on ! I had to pull myself out of the boat to go deer hunting. It is sitll warm right now but it is getting pretty cool in the evenings. I expect things to really start biting!
Members CanoeBoy Posted September 7, 2013 Members Posted September 7, 2013 I've hit Fellows, Table Rock, and Lake Springfield a lot, but never Stockton. Since I am fishing from a canoe w trolling motor and the area I can cover is limited, would anyone have a good area they could suggest to launch from?
Skeeter ZX190 Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 Smallywally; My experience has been that October into November has been some of the finest fishing of the year. My profile picture is a 5 lb 3 oz smallmouth I caught the first part of November about 3 years ago. I caught it on a pop-r. Last year we had a really good day fishing in mid-November using a shakey head and senko in green pumpkin. 10 keepers for the day. Nothing huge but mainly 15 to 17 inchers. I mostly fish the main lake around the dam area. Green pumpkin is a must on Stockton. Earlier that year in mid-September was also a really good day. It was cloudy and had just finished raining. The fish were up shallow and aggressive.
hknfsh Posted September 8, 2013 Author Posted September 8, 2013 Canoe boy.....not sure what direction you're coming from but hawker point is a nice place to fish. You can go around the campground and back into hawker cove quite a ways. You'll be sheltered off the main lake and have plenty of good fishable water back there. Be sure in the late afternoon/early evening to fish the point out in front of campgrond....there are willow trees on it....can't miss it. Throw jig/craws or chompers out there. Good place ! Been some top water out there lately too!
hknfsh Posted September 8, 2013 Author Posted September 8, 2013 9lb is right on. Fall is great time for bass. We fish the points on north side of lake. Jigs works well for us. Don't forget BIG worms...10-12 inches ! Big bait = Big bite !!! Bass should be up along banks fattening up by then. Heard were due for hard winter this year. Right now I think their gorging on the plentiful shad.....been a little tough for me lately. I'm not much of a crankbaiter....love bottom baits too much !!!

SmallyWally Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Thanks for the info. Kindness is the language the blind can see and the deaf can hear.-- Mark Twain
9LB Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Keep that canoe in the right part of the Lake. The Stockton wind is know to KILL canoers, literally. Hawkers Cove is good but do no think that the lake will not go from calm to WICKED In 10 minutes thus my big Deep V. Life Jacket, Life Jacket, Life Jacket - Have fun that cove is one of my favorite fall spots.
