I'm interested in canoe floating/fishing from Deleware to Hootentown this weekend (9/22/13) and have some questions.

Excluding fishing time, how long might this float take this time of year under normal conditions at a slow easy pace?

Would there likely be much dragging of the canoe?

What would be the best lures for small mouth? Live minnows any good?

Thanks for any help.

I did that float a few weeks ago. I wanted to do a shorter float so I could fish some (delaware to shelvin or shelvin to hootentown) but my two buddies wanted to do the whole thing....so I got to throw a cast here and there, but not much chance to fish with trying to keep up. 4 hours and 15 minutes is what it took us, we were in kayaks and didn't really have an issue with dragging but the river may be a little lower now.

I was at Delaware Town this evening and can add that the water is up about a 1' or more and moving.

Very Muddy and nothing I threw got any action.

I think we are expecting more rain Friday so plan accordingly.

The lures that do the best for me on that stretch of river are bright colored jigs, compact spinnerbaits, and any small crank bait that looks like a craw dad . My favorite colored jig is chartreuse and red. Hope this helps. There a lot of good smallmouth through there. Good luck.

A bit too long a float for me if I'm going to fish much. A couple weeks ago I spent nearly 7 hours to float Jamesville to Hooten. :secret-laugh:

You may have a bit of drag until you hit Shelvin in a canoe but we got quite a bit of rain yesterday and its sure to bring it up. The smallies were hitting anything soft green pumpkin.

Good luck
