I would rather see something along the lines of one term for all but the house and allow them 2 terms. The quick turn over in the house is suppose to be advantages in reflecting constitutes needs and I would be afraid they wouldn't have time to be effective in one 2 year term. The offset terms and length of senators was thought to offer an advantage in passing laws. Along with it they should all be prevented from giving themselves immunity from any law they pass. What is missing today is the responsibilities of the two houses. The founders wanted the laws to be the senates responsibility while the house took care of the check book. then the terms would better reflect the needs of the people, but instead they have both gone to multiple terms and want to do the others job.

I think the micromanagement dealing with each district's constituents is what has hamstrung the government, the country has become so complicated that to keep each small group of voters happy the ability of the government to fuction as a whole has been deminished. We all need to be represented, but the way things are now members of the house care more about their re election than the function of the government as a whole, it is a tough problem to fix, because term limits probably would diminish the direct influence of individual constituents.

Maybe this is a good starting over point.. Can the Federal Government please just do for me the things I can't do for myself. I think that only means keep me safe from other countries will bad intentions. The rest I can handle better, more efficiently privately and on my own. I can't however organize an armed forces capable of keeping this great country safe against the threats we face today. So fund that... modernize it while you're at it... and anything else add in as funds allow.. and only after approval by the people who are represented by regular folks, not career politicians. That was the original intent and we are so far from that today it it isn't funny.
