Members doohickey Posted October 8, 2013 Members Posted October 8, 2013 Does anyone know if SWEPCO is still shut down for maintenance? Has anyone fished it recently? I love taking a day off from work and going over there to avoid the weekend crowd but wasn't sure how the fishing has been.
Members Middleton369 Posted October 8, 2013 Members Posted October 8, 2013 I've been wondering the same thing. I've got a buddy that's going to check today and see what it looks like. If the plants off, I'm going up there tomorrow. If it's running then I'll be there in February after duck season
J-Doc Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I’d like to know that myself. I heard they were going to be shut down for over a year so I doubt it’s back up and running. It’s managed by the AGFC. You could call the local office and find out. Let me know if it’s open and upload a report if you go. I’d be willing to bet the fishing is not so good. Although, this cold front may have them fired up really good. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
Quillback Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 These cool nights may get them going over there.
bfishn Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 A coworker and his dad have been going every Saturday all summer, with surface temps in the 90s, they have to be operating. They've been doing consistently "OK" (deep with jigs), but no honkers. They didn't go last Sat, so no recent update, but I expect no reason to change. I can't dance like I used to.
jeb Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 My buddy that works there says they shut down on the 5th and the circulating pumps will be off for a total of 5-6 days. That schedule may have changed as they never know until they get in there what all needs to be done some times. AFAIK, the lake itself has never been shut down to access, at least in the last few years. It was a tough launch in some of the low water times, though. The plant was closed for a long while for some major repairs and updates, and their long term status was in question. But I believe that's all been resolved at the state politics level. They've been up and running for months now. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha

Members Jtbrash Posted October 14, 2013 Members Posted October 14, 2013 Went to swepco today (14th) fished from sun up to three. Water temp was 79 or so. They were running water, but usually it's hotter than that?!. Been a few times in the past month and it was 90, i assumed they were doing maintenance. Lots of small fish shallow. Caught maybe 15 under a pound and 5 a little over. Saw some baitballs on the graph at all depths, most were packed back in the flooded timber though, caught my two nicest fish there. Maybe a three and a four pounder on a jig and and creature bait. Tried lotsa different things to get the bigger fish to bite deep, not much luck. I was out there about a month and a half ago and they had just spawned. Not sure where that puts the next one, I know they spawn year round so looking forward to the lunkers again.
Members Middleton369 Posted October 23, 2013 Members Posted October 23, 2013 Any one had any recent success at Swepco since the cold frog came through over the last few days? Would think that it would really get them going there.
Sore Thumbs Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Went last week for a few hours. Water is still pumping but water is nit as hot as it can be. Caught 2 decent bass. Best one was 3lbr. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
