moguy1973 Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 I think a 16 team playoff would work. There's 4 weeks from the end of the regular season usually, and that would work into a 16 team play off scenario. Take the top 16 teams in the BCS rankings, or whatever system used to rank them, and let them go at it. Or even the winners of 8 of the major conferences: ACC, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, Pac 10, Mountain West, American Athletic, Conf USA, and then the next 8 best teams. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Al Agnew Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Al, I think a more likely heartbreak scenario is we get to the SEC Championship game with one loss and then miraculously beat Alabama and win the SEC title. But because we have one loss we lose out to Ohio State-Oregon. IMO whoever wins the SEC title should play for the national championship. One loss, two losses, doesn't matter. Yeah, somebody said above that every team in the top ten is hoping that everybody ahead of them loses, but not Mizzou. They better be hoping Bama stays undefeated. If Bama loses before the SEC championship game, and an undefeated Mizzou beats a one loss Bama team instead of an undefeated and still #1 ranked Bama team, I'd just about guarantee you Mizzou doesn't get the nod for the national championship game.
hank franklin Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Based on...? Are you kidding me? How about the last seven NCAA titles going to the SEC? Do you even WATCH college football? Come on. I actually think MU to the SEC was a bad idea, EXCEPT in football, where if you want to get real that's where you go. So good for Mizzou to go for the gold. If we (somehow!) win the SEC this year and don't get a berth in the national championship............ I don't even want to go there.
ozark trout fisher Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 Well let's go ahead and beat Carolina so we'll have the chance to find out about some of these scenarios first hand. I fear all the title talk (started by me, so I'll take the blame) may jinx things. Apparently Corbin Berkstresser will not be able to go as the backup. If has to come out we are looking at having to use one of our intended redshirts as QB. Let's hope he can stay healthy. How many quarterback injuries have we had in the last 12 months or so?
Quillback Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Based on? I'm just going by the fact that from year to year the conference bowl records tend to drift. It still comes down to individual match ups and to say they should get an automatic berth in the big game is nonsense. So the champion of the strongest conference in college football should not get in the Championship game? SEC is still the strongest conference, 7 straight national titles. It's nonsense to dispute that.
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Based on...? Do you even WATCH college football? Come on. Yes and for many, many years and that is why I know that any thought that one conference, no matter how big it is, should get a bye is ridiculous. The SEC has always had quality teams, but so has some other conferences. I think the fact that they haven't always been able to make it to the big game is probably proof enough. OTF, you make me smile with your logic. You go through Baylor's out of conference games as if they were deal breakers. Can you really in good faith make that comparison when a 2 time national champion is playing GA ST, Chattanooga, and Co ST? As if it really makes a difference? The fact is these second and third tier teams line up to play the big boys. They make big money and get a few extra recruiting points for the scrimmage. There is no standard you can use. A great case in point, LSU vs AL. If LSU hadn't beaten AL before, everyone would have thought that LSU and it's conference didn't belong in the game. None of you can deny that. College football is fun because it is so unpredictable, it's all about hope, no predictions. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Feathers and Fins Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Well SC just showed where MO is weak tonight. Short Screen and a dual threat QB. Ole Miss and ATM will see this and rip Mizz apart and what Bama will do seeing that is illegal in all but the deep south. I see a 9-3 season which could knock them out of the SEC Championship Game, ironically it could be SC that plays Bama because of tonight. On the Flip side Mo exposed SC tonight, Run it at Clowney with a 3 set receiver Florida could be the team to knock them out of the SEC Championship game. And this boys and girls is the SEC. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

moguy1973 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 So much for all the speculation. Can't sit on a 17 point lead in the SEC. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
stlfisher Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Anyone else think baggert was gouing to miss? You just new at some point it was going to happen. The way they lost was terrible..not so much they lost. My worry is they don't regroup. As much as this stings this what makes college football so great...you just never now.
