I can see it now...something bad always happens for Mizzou, and this year it's going to be that they go undefeated, beat Bama, and STILL don't make the NC game because Baylor and Ohio State are undefeated as well. Wouldn't THAT burn your toast?

Seasons are long, that's for sure. I don't see Baylor jumping in front, but there is no doubt that OSU has more clout in the polls. If Baylor continues at their present pace they will rise fast though. Strings of 60 and 70 point games don't happen often in football.

You're still following the hype OTF, you make some assumptions that aren't holding up. Early season games aren't always that telling and trying to compare conferences from them and games within is useless. GA got be beat by the powerhouse Clemson, who went on to beat nobody and then got demolished by FSU, and then started squeaking by until it all caught up with them.

Mizzou isn't in a place now where they can be comfortable. It's put up or shut up time and I don't mean that in a hateful way. They have T A&M who is formidable, but twice beaten. Lose to them and the bottom falls out in the polls. TN, no push over and one of those teams who "On a given Saturday" can be dangerous. SC, erratic and that makes them hard to play, at least for the coaches. If they get by them, and don't get ambushed by MS or KY, they have to beat the unbeatable AL. After all of that they have to leap frog OSU or FSU to get to OR, if OR doesn't get ambushed. My whole point is that it's useless look to far ahead, it always has been in college football and that's what makes it different from the pros. It doesn't really matter whether Mizzou gets their chance or not to make this a season to remember. You can look at January, but I'm going to look at Saturday.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

That is a BIG AMEN Wayne. Its Saturday to Saturday until the Championship games are played and the bowls handed out. All we can do till then is sit back have fun speculating and teasing eachother until the Season comes along they actually set it all up for a real playoff schedule.

IF (and it is a big if, but possible) MU runs the table they will be in the national title game. It matters not what happens elsewhere. No team that goes undefeated in the SEC would not go to the national game...even in a perceived down year. FSU/Oregon would get the other spot. No way ohio state or Baylor would make it if three other teams are undefeated. Baylor has played nobody...their best victory is a kstate team they stuggled with. They might be good, but the toughest part of their schedule is ahead of them. We will see if they continue to be as impressive.

I can look at both Saturday, and January possibilities, cause I'm pretty sure those things are related. When you are competing for a title shot each week matters, not just for your team but for every other undefeated contender. So yeah, it's worth looking at what is going on around the country while also watching your team. Fans of every title contender in the country are looking at the BCS standings and cheering like heck against every team that is ahead of them or close, and looking for reasons to discredit those teams. With the crappy current system that's what you have to do, it's not that I have some longstanding grudge against Baylor or Ohio State. Getting that playoff a year early would be a good thing right about now.

Of course I am as excited as heck for this weekends game, which wins us the SEC east with a victory (unless we lose the rest of our games and Tennessee somehow beats Alabama and wins out or other sure signs of the end of the world come to pass. :)) Let us hope Clowney is a no-show.

I think Maty Mauk and Henry Josey should go off against that USC defense if Clowney doesn't have the game of his life. Dylan Thompson is a good back up, but he isn't Connor Shaw. I'm nervous, but give me 34-20.

OTF

Welcome to the SEC

Miracles happen here and the end of the world comes Every Saturday. Or when you play Alabama.

The end of the world may happen.

But UT isn't beating Alabama.

The polls are like a funnel and it gets tighter the closer you get to the end. At this stage the top teams only need to win to hold their position. It's very rare this late in the season for a team to drop back if they win. If they do lose the teams behind just move forward in step.

It's easy to drop back, hard to move forward unless there is a vacant spot.

I think anyone who has watched Mizzou football for long time time feels the same way. Everytime you start to think that maybe this is the season, they get screwed by a bad call or have a bad loss and things go downhill. And this SC game scares the crap out of me.

Here is an article that talks about exactly that:
