mic Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 I found this video this morning. It is advertised as a steelhead pattern, but wouldn't it work for bass and brown trout. Might also work at the trout parks as a white fly. Your thoughts.
Flysmallie Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Yeah it would work. I'd probably use more rabbit on the front in place of the hackle and add a little flash.
Gavin Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Reminds me of the Gartside Softhackle Streamer...with rabbit instead of palmered marabou...the Gartside will cast alot easier.
Flysmallie Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 I would try both. The Gartside will cast a lot easier for sure but the rabbit is going to have more bulk in the water. Something in between would be a pine squirrel streamer that I would rather have over either of them.
mic Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 Hey Al you out there... Don't you tie and use a fur based fly on regular basis?
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Not much different than rabbit leech really. As for steelhead/salmon flies a lot of them will work. I've just about used all mine up from my time out west, but I won't retie any of them. The one salmon fly that has worked well and is probably worth tying is the Burlap fly that was popular in Michigan, maybe still is? The 2 flies in the center are simple rabbit wraps. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
