mic Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I was thinking about making a couple of inlines for my spin rod. Any suggestiongs on how to dress the hook?
Lancer09 Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Try just putt actual fly spinners in front of a small streamer. Sounds like a helicopter flying by your head though.
jdmidwest Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Its a new meaning to chuck and duck. I tried them a few time when I first started flyfishing, then never thought about it again. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 The speed spinner has been around since at least the 50's at Bennett. It is a gold blade set over the barrel of a barrel swivel snap and a split ring to keep it there. A brown wooly was the fly. It was very effective and I know the store still sells them, but I have no idea if they still work. hatchery fish have an affinity for bright and flashy and it's sometimes hard to separate whether a lure or fly is effective or just attractive to fresh fish? The old Hildebrand spinner for fly rods was a killer for crappie, small bass and perch. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
exiledguide Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Wayne, Gold spinner with a brown wooly worm fly was recommended by George "Beartracks" Carson I used it in the 70s at Meramec Springs at St James Mo with a spinning rod and a small lead weight on the line. Blakemore also made a 1/32oz Brown Wooly Worm jig that was a trout catcher. I worked with a guy who always used Hildebrand spinner whenever he used worms or minnows Swore by them
