ozark trout fisher
Good game for Mauk. He has serious running skills. He is an inconsistent passer, but the talent is there. In the meantime (if he plays more this season) that running talent needs to be utilized perhaps a little more than it was against USC. Maybe this was driven by the fact that we had no real backup there, but today they let him play the type of game that we were hoping to see. Josey being able to go gave him a lot of help, especially when Mauk was still working on getting into a rhythm early. One last thing-I'm excited to see this guy as our full-time starter next year. The ceiling is really high for Maty Mauk. Of course it would be wrong to overlook the defense, who put in another great performance. If you could erase the last few minutes of the SC game this has been a fantastic unit. It seems when a team gets in field goal range, there is usually a timely sack or turnover to knock them out-classic bend but don't break at its best is what we saw tonight. It has to be frustrating for a team to take so many trips into Missouri territory and get so few points. In all, 8-1 is pretty good. Let's hope they can keep it up against Kentucky. Al Agnew
After a shaky start, Mauk settled down and made some good throws and good decisions. The pocket was collapsing on him fairly quickly on a lot of plays, but if he has time he can make all the passes. Josey looked terrific, and the other backs, including the 4th and 5th backs, looked good. The line did some great run blocking and so did the wide receivers. It was nice to see DGB simply outquick the whole TN secondary on that one touchdown. That was a massive TN offensive line, but Sam and company would have had more sacks if the TN line didn't hold on almost every play, with no calls. I watched several plays where they simply grabbed on and dragged the Mizzou rushers down, and one where I think it was Sam had to make about three lunges to finally break the hold the guy had on him from behind and get free to charge the qb. Feathers and Fins
I really liked what I saw out of Mauk last night, He has an arm when he has time and is accurate, he is without doubt a runner as well and not afraid to take or make a hit. Dual Threat QB I think the coaches have been holding him back after what I saw last night. I would say let the boy play his style he had an impact on the other players and brought them up a few degree's. Tenn had more hold that were not called last night than a high school prom. They couldn't contain the Mizz D without it 100% agree with Al on that. If Mizz lets Mauk play his game against KY start to finish it could be real ugly and a blow-out of epic proportion. No reason to put Franklin back in at all if Mauk keeps playing like this and in fact could be a massive mistake. Mauk needs to definitely be in against TAM! If allowed to play his game with the way Mizz D is TAM could be embarrassed by Mizz. I saw a lot last night about Mizz. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Wayne SW/MO
It was certainly a win that had to be conclusive after the loss and it was. I don't know if it's fair to say Mauk is an inconsistent passer, more like an inconsistent reader. Nothing cures that but experience. As the season goes on he will learn more and more where his receivers are at any given time and where his blocking is. He seems to be well above average in accuracy and that's harder to achieve then simply figuring out where the targets are. I wouldn't play him passed KY and I think the should put Franklin back into the line up the Monday after KY. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman. I wouldn't play him passed KY and I think the should put Franklin back into the line up the Monday after KY. What I mean by calling him an inconsistent passer is this: he has a tendency to throw a 100 mph fastball to a receiver 10 yards down the field. Even if the ball is accurate (and it often is) it's basically uncatchable. That's something I think he can cure in time, and he's certainly showed a ton of talent in other areas. But he continually hits at or below 50% of his passing attempts. That will change at some point, and it absolutely has to against good competition. Again, he's a redshirt freshman who has gone 2-1 against three quality opponents, so I'm not complaining here. There is just some improvement to be made. That said, it's possible that Mauk may not get more chances to build on his (mostly) successful first few starts. I really think Franklin plays against Kentucky. It at least looked like he was ready to go out there yesterday, standing in the huddle, helmet on, throwing the ball on the sideline. Obviously Mauk and the rest of the offense (not to mention the defense) played WAY too well for that to be a consideration. I do hope we find some way to keep him involved even if Franklin is healthy and playing good ball. It would seem Mauk is the future at the position for the next 2-3 years. He's played well enough to be considered as such, low completion rate and all.
Wayne SW/MO
I see him as accurate and his misses as poor reading, not uncommon for any freshman who hasn't practiced with the receivers he's throwing too and who simply lacks experience in so many aspects. I think accuracy is hard to achieve if it isn't already there. Two things plague new QB;s, IMO, one is that they don't often throw long in high school and they don't have the defensive backs to force pinpoint accuracy. Every step up, high school to college to pros intensifies the talent. I wouldn't look for a lot of improvement this year, but by the time he goes through spring with the starters he should be a real asset. Best hope he has people surrounding him to take advantage of it. I don't think it would be smart to risk Franklin against the weakest SEC team they will likely play. He's a senior and doesn';t need the conditioning to enter play. A week of practice to hone his timing and he should be ready to go. I would let him get stronger. If SC and TN couldn't beat Mauk, why think KY could? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

If SC and TN couldn't beat Mauk, why think KY could? I would basically agree with you on that. If there is a risk of reinjuring his shoulder I would not start him next week. But if (and only if) he is 100% by Saturday, then you start the best QB on your roster. You may not play him the whole game, but if there is no real injury concern I think you almost have to go to Franklin. Kentucky is not a great team, but they are still a conference road opponent and you never know. I don't think it's the kind of game where you can just rest your starters if they can play at a high level.
Feathers and Fins
OTF, Why are you so high on Franklin? Mauk is playing very good and winning, he lost to SC sure but that is a top notch team and Conner makes the team so much different when he is in. Just because Franklin is a senior should not mean he plays. I would stick to the guy that is winning games and is playing. I hate it when coaches put back in a person off injury just because he is a senior or their starter and then loose and go ( What happened )? What happened ding dong is you pulled the hot QB and put in a rusty knife. Right now I would love to kick Bret in the Balls and Jeff Long. They let Derby in because of who his daddy is and no other reason and he SUCKS. Arkansas has another QB and all indication is he is better than Brandon and Derby. But we have the dam redshirt I say NCAA Burn that dam rule let them play 5 years if they can. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
