ruthead Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 We're starting a new tradition this year of a Trout trip the 3 days after Thanksgiving. We have a place at Bennett and go there several times through the summer. With the small size of the fish this year there we thought we might try somewhere else. Ben to Taneycomo a couple times this year and to Roaring River. Never been to Montauk. If you could go those 3 days where would it be and why. fishinwrench Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 How many in the group? If you're in NW Mo. You might consider going Northeast. Driftless.
ruthead Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 Me, wife, and our 3 sons. Youngest is 13 so no special considerations there(except wading in deep water as he 5'4"). Where to the northeast ya thinkin fw? "Pretty soon we may not have any rights left because it might infringe on someone's rights"
Members Hatch 82 Posted November 5, 2013 Members Posted November 5, 2013 I would try montauk and the current. Especially if you haven't fished it before. I love the driftless area usually fish Wisconsin but their season is closed, Iowa's is still open. But a couple reasons I would avoid DA this time of year: spawn is on, weather, and the steams are not very accommodating for 5 anglers. I'm not a big fan of the trout parks but will fish anywhere I can whenever I can. Out of the bunch montauk feels less like a trout park and you also have the current outside of the park.

Sorry but what is DA?? Any advice on fishing the Current outside the park?? "Pretty soon we may not have any rights left because it might infringe on someone's rights"
Members Hatch 82 Posted November 6, 2013 Members Posted November 6, 2013 Driftless Area :NE Iowa, SE Minnesota, SW Wisconsin, and just the northern tip of Illinois.
Gavin Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 We usually camp at Montauk over Thanksgiving weekend...The park is darn near vacant, so don't pay extra to make an online reservation if camping. Not sure how full the cabins get.

Pretty long trip for short period of time. We usually camp at Montauk over Thanksgiving weekend...The park is darn near vacant, so don't pay extra to make an online reservation if camping. Not sure how full the cabins get. I like the vacant part! Last time at Taney had a guy moved in front of us that thought he owned the place. When I voiced my displeasure with him he wanted to "take it to the bank". Think we'll be there too. Anything particular I need to tie up for the trip??
