duckydoty Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Had another fantastic hunt today. It was over quick and still had birds landing in my decoys after the limit was filled. Right about shooting time I must have had 100 birds in the decoys and around me. It took 3 minutes after shooting time for the first victim to come streaking in. 1st shot missed and second shot piled a nice little green wing drake up on the spread. The 100 or so birds took off and 2 of them swung back around and tried to land in the deeks again. Dropped a green head out of the pair. 10 minutes later had a group of 12 gaddys lock up and swing on in. Dropped two of them. A swing and 3 misses on the next bunch of birds and then a great shot on another crossing green wing drake and skerplush he went. Things settled down for a little bit and about 45 minutes later a huge flock of gaddys were fully committed. Picked the closest one and dropped it. Sat there for a few minutes just enjoying the rain and in comes 30 green wings and one shoveler to the decoys. They sat there whistling at me for a bit before taking off. The shoveler stuck around right at the end of the decoys and watched me pick up 4 or 5 of them before flying away. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Wayne SW/MO Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Are you hunting the upper or lower end? I haven't hunted in quite a few years now, but it seems like it's late for the little greenwings? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
duckydoty Posted December 13, 2013 Author Posted December 13, 2013 Hunted the lower end close to Bull Creek. It is late for them little green wings. I was very surprised to see them. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
watermen Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Good shooting D. Arrgh I wonder some times how I ended up so far from any big water. It's 2 plus hours to any birds from the middle of nowhere and days like today I get to set and read about other guys having a blast. I love shooting Gaddys only duck that can peel off and move backwords. Keep hammering.
duckydoty Posted December 13, 2013 Author Posted December 13, 2013 Thanks watermen. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
BilletHead Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Another excellent report Duane. Get them while you can. duckydoty Posted December 13, 2013 Author Posted December 13, 2013 Thanks Marty. Still looking forward to the rest of the story. To be continued I hope. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
JohnP Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Awsome and excellent report DD. Doesn't surprise me to see the gwt as it seems like we always get into good all the way thru the end down on BS. What surprises me more is the lack of greenheads I'm not seeing ???? Scouted a spot on lower BS MoMo side that had 300 plus ducks on it this afternoon all gads and gwt not on mallet that I could see.
Terrierman Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Those grey mallards are right up there when it's time to fire up the grill too. Nice report. P.S. I've about given it up too, but we used to see teal right up to the end of season. Smaller numbers for sure but still. And man they eat the BEST of them all.
