duckydoty Posted December 14, 2013 Author Posted December 14, 2013 JohnP there does seem to be fewer mallard this year than some other years. Can't complain too much though, especially if you compare this year to last year. Pretty good season so far in my opinion. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! duckydoty Posted December 14, 2013 Author Posted December 14, 2013 Those grey mallards are right up there when it's time to fire up the grill too. Nice report. P.S. I've about given it up too, but we used to see teal right up to the end of season. Smaller numbers for sure but still. And man they eat the BEST of them all. You are absolutely correct about the eats A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted December 14, 2013 Root Admin Posted December 14, 2013 Saw a group of 2-300 mallards on the White River yesterday at the mouth of the Buffalo River. Also a big group of canadas. Not many on the float down though. Thought of you, DD.
duckydoty Posted December 14, 2013 Author Posted December 14, 2013 Thanks Phil. I could feel it in the force. Little bit slower on Taney this morning. Ducks must have found a safe zone and stuck with it. Not much flying around and my buddy and I only bagged 5 birds between us. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Wayne SW/MO Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 There's always some ducks holed up around the lakefronts below Rockaway and in Silver Creek. I guess they know where they're safe. When I hunted I always figured on big flocks and lots of ducks when it froze over to the north. Ducks don't run from the cold as much as they run from solid water. JohnP Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Had close to 300 gads scouted out sitting on Bull Shoals yesterday afternoon. Had plans this morning so wasn't able to hunt em til this afternoon. Put the boat in at 2 and surprised and pleased not to see any fresh tire tracks after this mornings snow. do a quick boat ride to the main lake and back up the creek just to be dissapointed in only seeing a pair of hoodies . Decided to go ahead and find a spot to set up and just hope that they'll fly in before dark. No luck, only thing I seen was 3 grebes that kept swimming thru the dekes. Talked to one of boys that was hunting in the protem area and they only managed one gaddie but did see 100 to 150 greenheads but knew where they wanted to be and never gave em a look. Oh well, needed to get the snow. Off the boat and blow the cob webs out as I haven't had it in the water in a couple months .
duckydoty Posted December 15, 2013 Author Posted December 15, 2013 Yesterday was a little slower for us also. Only 5 birds between the two of us. Today much better. Lots of hunters on Taney today. Kept the birds moving a little longer. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
JohnP Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 200 to 300 or more rafted up in the middle of the lake at Empire Park this afternoon. Also starting to see more geese in the area than I've seen all seen all season, hopefully a sign of birds starting to move from the north .
duckydoty Posted December 15, 2013 Author Posted December 15, 2013 I think those are the birds that were rafting below Rockaway today. They got flushed further down due to all the shooting. I hope we do get some more birds in from up north. These guys are starting to get stale. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
Wayne SW/MO Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Someone was out this morning. I'm not always where I can hear them though so I don't know if they had a lot of targets. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
