merc1997 Bo Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 I forgot to ask this but what about those line counters you can attach to a rod I forgot to ask this but what about those line counters you can attach to a rod a friend of mine had one, and it was only so so. not as accurate as a 5500c. bo
merc1997 Bo Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 BO the thing that has always bothered me about counting depth by the reel is as your line goes off the reel spool the spool becomes smaller becomes smaller and it would seem to me the amount of line leaving the the spoon every revolution would be less also. Never have to go as deep as you do down there but it has ben something i have thought about. when it is still accurate to 105 ft. i am not going to worry about being off a few inches. i have sat in 105ft. of water and let the spoon all the way to the bottom, and it took exactly 15 trips. we use the same method for fishing for whites and stripers under lights. bo
Dutch Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 I might not have posted a photo with GPS coordinates, but that's just me I guess. I do appreciate the report. I'd love to make the trip you made. I'm betting that is a decoy like duck hunting.
rps Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Pam, Chuck's widow, reports the Winnebago is beginning to catch a few. She quotes him as "a week or two away." BTW he is a notorious chub on a jig fisher.
Hazbin Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Bo's got it right, those old Ambassadeurs (5-5500C) are pretty accurate. Keep a full spool and you can test it with the measurement of the bottom from the readings on your graph and you'll see it's very close to the exact dept. You can check it at various depths and you will find the dynamics of the spool measurement doesn't really change it that much even at 100'.
