I have an old dresser in the garage holding my two most used rods. The others are in the corner or on the wall. I want to make something this winter.

Drew they are easy to make. Trouble now days is the cost and quality of lumber or plywood to do it nicely. I make marble game boards for the family now and then. A 2' X 2' quality piece of plywood of Oak or maple in the 3/4" size i use ( board on both sides) can cost you $25 bucks easy.

This is one out of red oak I made for B-I-L's wedding present13 years ago. There divorced now and he got the rod rack.

Made this one out of quarter sawn white oak a couple months ago for my man cave. No wall space required and that is a big factor in the shop.

I like it well enough, think I'll make another one. Both racks came from trees I harvested and sawed/dried the lumber myself.

Nothing pretty but functional. Installed right above my boat in the garage. I stand in the boat, pull the rods that I need, load them in the rod lockers and go.

I have three different designs so far that I have tried doing. I messed around with a bunch of PVC pieces and I just never really liked the way it looked. I tried mimicking some of the nice wooden racks but without buying one but I haven't quite perfected it. Since I am not much of a woodworker I decided to try and be original and see what I could come up with.

I wanted something simple and something that worked so I came up with taking 5 ft. of climbing rope and stapling it onto a strip of wood every 2.5 inches. I am going to leave enough slack in between so i can put either one of the rod ends in. I take all of my reels off of the rods when I store them anyway so this will be a good spot to store a bunch of rods up and out of the way.

Thoughts? I need to get a better stapler before I start because mine wasn't wide enough to keep the rope in place. I have about a dozen rods not including my fly rods which are just fine in their hard cases so I think this might fit the bill perfectly.

I also found that the size of the rope fits perfectly through a large spool of fishing line. Looks like I may put those on one end as well. That should make adding new line a breeze. Pictures to come when I am happy with how everything looks.
