Fishrman Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Well didn't get skunked, caught 3 all on jerkbait, one keeper. Front graph would not turn on today, so was unable to look for deep fish. water was 45*, saw Champ and Donna once today sorry for not saying stopping by, but was getting ready to call it a day, and you two were fishing docks, didn't want to crowd in there. Well hope everyone had a great new year, great way to spend my birthday. Fished from 10-2:30. Hope you all better luck than me. Have a great year everyone.
Quillback Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Thanks for the report. The jerk bait bite seems to be a tough one so far, I can't get bit on one.
Champ188 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Shoulda stopped and said hello, Fishrman. It's not like you would've been interrupting a feeding frenzy. It was tough for us. We only had three, but at least two were good keepers. I looked for the deep bite for the first couple of hours then pulled out the jerker and stayed with it and on for the rest of the day. I did go back to my deep efforts a few times but to no avail. Missed a few others but all in all, very tough. No squirrels or deer moving. Never saw a single eagle either. Just a dead day for us. Stop and say hi next time. You won't bother us.
smbasser Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Weren't the only 1 struggling. Had 2 shorts out deep on a grub in Aunts creek and 1 3 Lb fish on a rig. Never seen any bird activity
Champ188 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I'd say it was just tough all over. Only took 14 lbs to win the Polar Bear derby on Beaver, and 9 pounds got a check. That was with 78 boats.
fishingaddiction Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 A good way to spend new years day and your birthday. Sorry the catching wasn't better for you. Sounds like Champ and Donna struggled also. QB did report a good day dragging the tube on another thread. I just don't think there are alot of fish shallow right now, which is why the sticker is not getting it done. On the other hand it sometimes takes so much time running around checking different locations to locate the deep fish, which is what I have been doing. When I have located the big shad schools, and fish around them the catching is fast and furious. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
