I checked with a couple adjusters and certain content items will be depreciated such as clothing, furniture etc other items they will need replacement receipts for instance if you claim you had an 870 shotgun and it was valued at 800.00 they will look it up on the blue book and pay its value depreciated unless it has been appraised higher same with jewelry coin collections etc.

Here is what I do, I have an RCV (recoverable cash value ) policy with a 1000.00 deductible so if a storm happens I know I will have to pay the contractor the 1000.00 deductible, the insurance will pay up front the ACV (actual cash value) of the damaged items, and when repairs are completed I will get the RCV value back which I will use to pay the contractor ( In my case I know my insurance carrier has a repair program associated with them so the RCV check will be sent to them when I sign off a notice of completion )

On content I do have additional insurance rider's that cover jewelry, guns, fishing gear basically stuff I want to make sure I can replace that typically would just fall under content limitations. I also make sure I have "code upgrades" in my main policy 10% of policy basically that means if your policy is for 100,000.00 you have 10,000.00 in code upgrades covered.

There really is no such thing as to much insurance. When I hear that comment it is typically from people who are "Cheap" and I have seen a few of them after storms mad as hornets when they didn't have enough coverage and their out of pocket was sky high. You have to have what you can afford certainly but SHOP AROUND! I also suggest going with one of the big name carriers the cheapo carriers really are that.

F&F -- I've got an endorsement for items of particular value like you're talking about . For a few more dollars a year I can get them specifically covered for replacement cost. I've got it for guns, photography equipment and jewelry. About 95% of the value of my photography equipment is in a single backpack. Somebody grabs that and I'm out big time. I've got it listed down to filters, cards, cords, batteries, etc. Add all the non-camera stuff in that bag up and it's more than the body.

Come to think of it, I should add my tackle box and fly fishing duffel.
