If anybody wants to catch some, head to Meramec Springs! I went down there today to mess around and caught at least a dozen on my ultralight and a sculpin jig. Nothing huge, biggest was 15", but they were a blast on the light tackle. Also caught at least a dozen trout as a bonus. The best part was I didn't even have to mess with pulling the boat!

Don't forget single hook and no soft plastics in the park. Below the park is also a restricted area, so no soft plastics.

I believe you can throw artificials with trebles in the red ribbon area, but not in the park. Neither areas allow plastic.

Ive been trying to get into them there as well. What part of the park did you catch them in?

I caught half throughout the park and the other half below the bridge in the riffle where the red ribbon area starts.

If you walk upstream from the spring branch, you can sight fish for them in that hole in the Meramec. I've done well with Rapalas in the park during March before, though.

WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk.

Time spent fishing is never wasted.

Yeah, sometimes it can get to be combat fishing at the mouth of the spring branch. Lots of people know to fish there when the weather has been cold for a while, and if the river is up they can get jetboats down the river from the Woods access. I gotta hope that most are releasing the fish they catch.

I usually fish it once a winter, carrying a fly rod broken down and a two piece casting rod. Fish for smallies for a while, then fish on down the river for trout. But I just don't feel quite right about hammering them too much when they are congregated like that, so once is enough for me.

Wow! I am glad I went Saturday and passed on yesterday! There was myself and two others fishing from the bank for smallies and that was it! I've seen one jet boat down there before when the water was up but it was several years ago. I had no idea it got that crazy there!

Wow so many thoughts go through my mind. Probably best I just keep my mouth shut.

Enlighten me. This is the first time I've been down there during the winter season in several years. Am I missing something? In the past when I went down trout fishing, I never did see very many people.
