Chief Grey Bear Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I got a hold of Ducky early in the week to see if he was open for a duck hunt. And as always the answer was "You bet"!! So we talked daily made plans, changed plans and made them again. By Friday evening when I showed up at his house, we almost had a plan. One thing we did know for sure was we had a young man with us that was on his quest for his first duck. So finally after a super meal of fried crappie, duck poppers, hush puppies and smoked pheasant, we made final preparations for the next morning's hunt. We excitedly laid our heads down at approximately 11 o'clock, for our 2:45 am wake up call. Corndawg and I actually woke up at 1:45! It's just like Christmas morning to us. By 4 AM after Ducky courageously battled icy roads we were on the water and headed to our destiny. We got completely set up and nestled in just as dawn broke. Immediately we hear shots ring out everywhere else at shooting time. So we know at this point there's going to be ducks in the air headed our way. And that they did. It was not long until our young man had his first duck down. This new young man to the sport of duck hunting is one of our own forum members son, Ian. He is the son of Woundedone. Unfortunately, he was not available to make the trip with us. Ian and Corndawg ended the day with two ducks a piece. There was a fifth duck that was shot but got over us that I went to retrieve. When I got over there another boat that happen to be coming down the lake had spied the duck and what happened to it. Apparently there was a bobcat very close our vicinity. And Michael Kyle who was in that other boat saw that a bobcat attacked that duck. That would have been awesome to get on film! I cannot thank Ducky and DD'sMC for the most awesome hospitality any human could ever expect to receive. I know there are many people that pay large sums of money to enjoy an experience not even half of what we did. Excellent, excellent people. I am extremely proud to call them my friends. It is just amazing what the do to show people a good time! And now for a little duck porn. duckydoty Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I spent the whole week scouting miles and miles of Table Rock, the James River, Flat Creek, Lower Taney, and Upper Bull Shoals. I thought a float down the James or Flat Creek would be cool, but with the snow melt and rain, I was afraid of the dangers high water might bring. Table Rock did not have huntable numbers of ducks anywhere. Upper Bull Shoals looked good but just did not have the numbers of ducks I would have liked to have seen. We ended up back at Taney in the mouth of one of the sloughs that had lost some ice. Wanted it to be a good hunt for the boys and all the scouting paid off. Cant ever turn down an offer to hunt with Chief and the Corndawg! A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
