hank franklin Posted January 13, 2014 Author Posted January 13, 2014 the gauges are still working on this site. http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/index.php?wfo=lsx Wow, nice find.
Guest Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 the gauges are still working on this site. http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/index.php?wfo=lsx Thank you sir!
fishinwrench Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 The way I read it they will go offline after 1-13-2014 (that is TODAY) Is that right?
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I think I would contact Billy Long and ask him to find what the cost is to operate it? That way you can separate the wheat from the chaff. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
KCRIVERRAT Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Thank you J&T. I rely on the Mountain View gauge heavily. HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 That's a little confusing. Is the USGS going to stop reporting, while NOAA will continue? Is NOAA picking up the tab now? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Al Agnew Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 While I don't agree with the action, don't think they really take recreation in to account that much. Most of the gauges are to predict flooding downstream in important areas. They apparently don't believe the Jacks Fork contribution is that important.I think that's how things started out, but I would think that recreational use of the gauges is a pretty big thing these days. But if you're right about them mainly looking to the gauges to monitor flooding, there is still the gauge at Alley Spring and at Eminence. The Alley Spring gauge is usable for the upper river, since it's above the spring. Not as accurate as the Highway 17 gauge, but fairly easy to extrapolate as long as the river levels have been reasonably stable for a few days. Not so the Akers gauge. As was pointed out above, the Montauk gauge is nearly useless, since it's above all the streams and springs, including Welch Spring, that come in between Montauk and Round Spring. Van Buren gauge is even more useless for the upper river above Two Rivers. Akers was the only gauge that could give you a good idea of the river between Cedar Grove and Two Rivers.
Members J&T Fisher Posted January 27, 2014 Members Posted January 27, 2014 I see the gauges are back on. Thanks USGS.
Members Muddler4 Posted January 28, 2014 Members Posted January 28, 2014 Sanity prevailed??? How did that happen? This calls for a bourbon and water. Thank you to whoever fixed it (and how).
Al Agnew Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 The MO DNR agreed to take over the funding until this coming autumn. After that, they'll either decide they have enough funds to continue, or more funding will have to be sought somewhere else.
