Things are thawing out spreading the birds around and giving more opportunities to hunt. I made my rounds and found two good places. One is a large irrigation lake packed with mallards and geese. Not sure if they were roosting there or not. Other place a very small pond/drain for drainage tile from a large field surrounded by corn stubble and winter wheat where I had witnessed ducks and geese dumping in yesterday. First place would take a bunch of decoys and work, second place just what I could haul on the four wheeler atv. First of all it would be a solo hunt without Mrs. BilletHead my workhorse partner. So an easy decision plan "B". I took in six duck and three goose floaters. A pulsator duck butt and my layout. Got set up. Pretty still winds at daylight changing to West and then North West soon afterword. No ducks early but two geese not even circling pitched in. I took one out and missed the other, no excuse just a flat out miss. Then ducks and geese flying in the distance going down in fields. Lots of geese going down but only one big group of ducks.. Had one group of two mallards with gadwall work up high but no drop in. Then a group of mallards in the distance going by and I called and they turned. But one drake from who knows where dumps in and I took him, replaced the one shell to see more coming, no calling needed and in they come. Three more shots and three more down. Lost one in deep fescue. I hate that. Got up five times and looked. Then a single goose came in sailing without a honk. Down he went. A bit later a pair committed. Picked one out and dumped him. His or her mate circled for forty five minutes very noisy. I felt a little bad for it. This was in your face shooting. It took ten shells. The extra shots one for a cripple and the two misses and the lost bird. Photos,

First a couple of the set up, you can see my layout with birds on it in the background. You would of never pick it out without the birds,

I don't know about you all but I am about worn to a frazzle. Might have to go more if Mrs. BilletHead insists :)

When did you tell me to come up to eat?

Great report. I didn't think they were all gone and you confirmed it for me.

Oh Chief there are so many birds around, just got to find them. Feast or famine. I would imagine there are tens of thousands between where you are and I am.

Scott this is 12 miles from where we talked about.

Nice Hunt Marty.

Alright, well, I wasn't going to put any pile pics up until after season but I've recently started taking pictures of dead birds with all my favorite merchandise in them as well. I'm kinda hoping if I keep putting these on the internet maybe some of these companies will contact me about prostaffing for them. Maybe I should put it on their Facebook page?
