Fly Choices At Powersite

I am planning a fly fishing trip to Powersite sometime in 2014. I haven't fly fished since I lived in MT back in the 90's. However, I would like to begin fly fishing here in MO as it seems I am the odd man out by not participating in such a prestigious aspect of the sport

With that said, I have caught trout, whites, SMBass, LMbass, and walleye below the dam...on less prestigious gear (eggbeater/baitcaster) If I were to fly fish this area, I would love to learn from some of you experts on fly selections for specific species and which times of the year are best for that specific species. I heard that November was an epic time for trout down there, based of recent news.

Any insight you are willing to share would be much appreciated.

Fly fishing below powersite would be a challenge, Below Table Rock dam would be your best bet... they pretty much eat a variety , midge, scud, egg, wooly bugs.....guaranteed a few fish on one of those,www.Charteredwaters.com gives a great well written report, almost entertaining to read.

A former state record brown trout was caught below powersite in 96, and I believe it was in the month of November. Use to fly fish for whites and walleye in march.

It's much harder to fish the pothole now, unfortunately do to the new water level and it's effect on the bank space.

The trout fishing can be good all winter, but for some reason the fish run small. A place to start would be to access the lake between River Run park and roads end going south out of the park.

I use white, grey, and chartreuse Clousers mostly in size #6 for the warm water creatures. trout will hit the same things the take in Taney. My best days have come drifting something close to the bottom that looked buggy, scuds, sowbugs or something small, dark and fuzzy.

In the summer a yellow foam spider can keep you feeling like a kid when fishing for longears and gills, with the occasional small bass. They are plentiful in Swan and and the edges of the Pothole.

The brown that laker referred to was suppose to have been caught at the mouth of Swan creek.
