Feathers and Fins Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 There is something I call the "GET REAL" factor. Would Bellichick have said one word had Welker delivered a hit like that when he played for Bellichick? Come get real of course he wouldn't. Welker has always played hard and to my knowledge never delivered a hit I would call intentional to take out someone actually to me he was one of the few classy Pats. and I HATE the Pats. Was it a pick play? Yes Was it an illegal hit? NO contact was made with Talib at the same time the ball and receiver touched that makes it a legal hit. Was there helmet to helmet? NO it was shoulder contact in fact Welker turned away to make contact. Are the Broncos masters of the Pick? YES Does NE use pick plays? YOU BETCHA Is BB crying like a punked little baby because he isn't going to the superbowl, My Opinion is YES SIR HE IS. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I still fail to see all hype over it. I don't see where it could be called a pick. Talib was too far back to challenge and Welker hit him eye to eye, so no cheap shot which I think made it an over zealous block. On the other side he was, Talib, questionable and I suspect Denver was going to make him play every down. I think Belichick was just being over protective because of it. I don't really agree with a lot of the hits allowed in football and it would easy to change the rules some. This play is a good example. A good hard shove would have taken away most of the pursuit by Talib. The same thing when you see a ball go over a receivers head so high he has no chance at it and still gets laid out, late. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Feathers and Fins Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Its an interpretation rule Wayne but now the NFL has come out and said Welker was legal the fat lady has done her singing and BB can now have more cheese to go with his wine. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

If you watch the play in slow motion welker lays the wood before the ball gets there. Not by much, but he beats the ball. Regardless this is now illegal. Welker drops his shoulder into Talib. I don't see him doing much turning away, he just isn't hitting him with his face, and even if there was helmet to helmet I still doubt they would call it. Just because the Broncos are masters of the pick play doesn't mean that they are still an illegal football play. Every team uses pick plays, and often but more teams get called on them than does Denver. The pass interference to me was a joke when called against NE on Hoomawananui (sp?) but they let the Welker hit go? I've never been a big Peyton fan either. Yes he is an incredible football player, but he, like Brady has had a lot of help along the way all the while masking deficiencies on their team. He seems to be super humble but a lot of times, to me, it at least feels like he doesn't care much about whatever team he is playing and that they shouldn't be allowed to step on the field when in his prescence. I think Sherman is a clown, however I would rather see some emotion like that than what Peyton does. Football is supposed to be fun. They are making millions of dollars to play a game.
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 The "pick" play isn't set in stone. If the defense is in a zone it's hard to pick, but not to block. I'm more concerned with the holding and pass interference. It appear they were allowing a DB to use his arms to hold. The pass in the end zone was apparently based on that. I haven't gone back to it, but my impression at the time was that the DB used his arms to effect a hold on the receiver. I don't really care to see a "fight" over the ball. Sherman may be a little over zealous verbally, but his play in the end zone was perfect as far as what one expects. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
