abkeenan Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Just pulled the PM-1 from Sear's up online, since so many people have said its great, but holy crap for a 3 bill it oughta be. That is a little rich for my blood, I have decent luck with AutoZone Batteries, for a little more than a 1/3 of the price. Only 1000 CCA, but I'll just to have to deal with that for the price difference. Likewise here Hodge. The Trojans and others at 300+ are just a little to much for me especially being I don't fish NEARLY as much as most guys here. I posted basically this same question on bassboatcentral as it has a much larger member base and I got a lot of responses. Had A LOT of guys say that their Ever Start Maxx from Wally World were great for the money ($99). Think come this spring that is what I will go with and see how they hold up.
Dutch Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 The original question was what is best not what may work. Wet cell 1000 CCA won't keep an optimax and electronics going when you are running the aerator, etc. The opti has to turn over several times before it fires and that draws juice.
MeatintheFreezer Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I have fished Walmart batteries for year and have had what I would call "ok" luck. I fish 30-40 days a year and they last me 3 years I would say on average. At that rate, I would have to get 9 years out of a Trojan. I am not bashing a higher priced battery, or anyone who uses them, but for me if I am going to replace batteries ever few years anyway 100 bucks sounds better than 300. Remember - If at first you DO succeed, try not to act surprised & quit while you're ahead.
Pepe Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Everybody watches their tach all the time but the most important guage on your dash is the VOLTMETER that is normally installed where you can't hardly see it. LOL A little tip: Most LCG units have a digital voltage readout option. Turn that baby ON, as it's usually more accurate than the analog guage most boats are equipped with. Voltage drops under 10v while cranking and/or operating the trim,, OR,, Voltage climbs of more than 14.5v while running indicate a problem brewing. Great tips. I did not know that. Thank you!
