Just a short post about where and how we're catching crappies on Lake Taneycomo right now.

We're finding them on the Branson side of the lake from Scotty's Trout Dock down to Roark Creek. Most seem to be 6-7 feet deep suspended in 10 to 24 feet of water. Seems like they're sitting on or just in the weed beds along the bank. There are a few lay downs and if you can find them they are around them.

Minnows under a float 7 feet deep has worked. I've caught them trolling a jig or swimming minnow along the bank about 40 feet off the bank. And throwing jigs (white or brown) towards the bank and working them back to the boat. Size depends on wind-- smaller the better.

There seems to be a big number of crappies right now, mostly scattered so you have to move around. I think you can catch them from the bank too. Again, depends on wind- it's been tough the last few days.

Thanks for the crappie info. Love fishing Mark twain and Truman for crappie. I make a trip to Taneycomo every February and never thought to try for anything other than trout. Now that would be a beautiful combo at the cleaning station and dinner table. I truly appreciate all the work you do to provide these fishing reports and videos.

Fished it yesterday up by the Bass Proshops boat ramp. Caught all of them on a white slab buster. Most of them were caught on a really slow retrieve without a float, but under a float about 8ft down really helped to see the strike. A couple nice 13" and brought home a bunch more that were between 9-12. I saw one of your boats up there Phil, a guy with a black lab on board. Great day to be on the water.

I have a question. I'm not there now but a general question. Are you allowed to fish off the 2 small docks along the landing walkway?

I would think so... yes.

Ok sorry but I've never met you in person, figured you would be much taller, haha. I was the guy in the huge flatbottom boat with the older guy and young lady. You asked me if I was catching them on white.

I would think so... yes.

I have seen people fishing from them. There are also a couple more north of those. You get to them by taking the walkway from the extreme corner of the north parking lot.

Before the really cold weather hit they were getting some out of the Empire slough. I'm not sure how abundant or large they were.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Hi guys, thanks as always for all of the great information. Driving down tomorrow morning. A couple quick questions, I have only been fly fishing for about a year down there and I always fish at or near what I think is called the first outlet right by the hatchery. I wanted to try some white marabou jigs tomorrow afternoon to mix it up a bit, but I have never ventured toward the darn from the first outlet. Are there signs to let you know how close you can get to the darn and is it accesable by foot? In other words could a guy in waders fish down that way with the white jigs?

Second questions Saturday I'm going to attempt a little crappie fishing. Are any being caught near Roark Creek?? I will most likely be in a kayak Saturday so that makes it tough if the water is running at any decent clip. Any other tips are appreciate. Thanks again!!! Apreciate all the information!!

I just found a map on the hatchery site, looks like I actually fish outlet 2 not 1, and if you go to outlet 1 you can't get much closer. So I will give that a shot. Thanks.
