ten_scoach Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Particularily at Ceder Ridge. That way I know when I can make the trip. Thanks for keeping us all posted.
waterpossum Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 As I reported Saturday, at that time a person could have launched at Hawker. I couldn't say for certain now about that launch. I would be surprised even with the warm weather in the forecast from what I saw on the Big Sac arm that a person could launch at CC, Ruark, Mutton, Old State Park, or Orleans Trail and find open water to fish for a week. Hope I'm wrong and it breaks up sooner.
Lvn2Fish Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 There is a live camera at Stockton Dam, It frozen solid. If the dam is frozen all over I'm sure the isn't much open water. http://www.ky3.com/weather/cameras/stockton-lake/-/22695916/-/k3ncwr/-/index.html
Members Lead Head Posted February 11, 2014 Members Posted February 11, 2014 Hawker Point, State Park, Old State Park (Hartley), Stockton City Ramp on RT RB, the two ramps at Orleans Trail, and the three subdivision ramps on the west side of the lake near MO 215 Bridge (mile long bridge) and Crab Tree Cove ramp are all frozen solid as of the morning of 02-11-14. There was some open water around the mile long bridge and it didn't look as bad on the main part of the Little Sac River side out in the channel in front of the state park as it sis a couple days ago. Hopefully some warm weather and high wind this ice will break up and go away. The fish should be hungry for a change in their diet from the dead shad since that is probably the only thing they have seen for a while.
dennis boatman Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 I'll just wait till April... A strike indicator is just a bobber...
ten_scoach Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 I was hoping it would be gone by Monday. Anyone with any experience have an opinion? 50 and 60 by weekend. Can't imagine ice would hold on long with that. Not sure. Never been around frozen stockton so your reports are very helpful for saving us all time and gas. Many thanks
Members Haulin Bass Posted February 13, 2014 Members Posted February 13, 2014 my experience with ICE is it can flow reletively soon. (Like a week of warm weather). Depending on 1) how thick was the ice before.? 2) how bad do you want to go? You could probably launch by Monday afternoon, but you'll be pushing ice chunks around, and the water will be colder than hell. p.s. if it's still frozen over then that meant the answer to question #1) was that the ice was thicker than you thought!
Members Haulin Bass Posted February 13, 2014 Members Posted February 13, 2014 just FYI,,,, I am seriously considering launching Sunday. That is,,,, basically just to drop my brush piles. But i am afraid that the place I want to drop them at is still frozen. AND,, i wouldn't expect to catch much, but that never stopped me before!
Members Lead Head Posted February 13, 2014 Members Posted February 13, 2014 Haulin Bass, you must really want to go BAD. From what I saw this afternoon you will need an ice breaker to launch anywhere near the dam. There were very few small open patches of water within sight of the Mile Long Bridge. All of the coves have what looks to be thick ice in them. I saw tracks where someone walked across the cove from the courtesy dock at Old State Park, not a move I would be willing to try. If the main lake would thaw the wind and waves should take care of the rest but if I was you I would be sure to bring an axe with you Sunday.
