Looking to change to a "sit on top kayak" from my canoe for fishing the local rivers for smallies. Have always like the canoe for being able to sit higher in the water and also to be able to stand up when I wanted. I understand the "sit on top" kayaks offers those same features. Please share any personal info any of you may have,,,,, like model name, size, price, etc. Hope someone knows of a good one that is not in the price range of the Hobie kayaks. Thanks for sharing.

Newest model Ascend FS12T http://www.basspro.com/Ascend-FS12T-SitOnTop-Angler-Kayak-Desert-Storm/product/13110707113412/

Three different price ranges there. The newest Ascend looks pretty nice even if it's a little heavy for it's size. But the price is right on it.

I have an Ocean Kayak Trident 11T, and while it's a great kayak, it doesn't handle smaller streams well as it's built more for flat water and straight tracking.

Perception sport pescador 10 and 12 ft. 449-550. I have 3 of them. And love them. They are a mold of the old wilderness systems tarpon 100-120. Great lil kayaks.

I can speak a little about the wilderness system yak. They are a very good all around, but the non-elevated seat on mine puts you pretty close to the water. If you found an option or model that had the taller fishing seat, it would be hard to beat.

My son has a D10T Ascend which is the most stable yak I have ever been in, but it is also the most uncomfortable. I like to sit a little higher than my feet are, in his it feels just like sitting flat on the floor. Again, with an elevated seat this would be greatly improved.

Hello Kee,

Thanks for the sweet deal on a canoe!

Maybe we will see you on the river this summer.

I have a Wilderness Ride 115. You don't sit as high as my canoe but mime has the new seat and your but is not below the water level. I was able to stand the first time I took it out. First time I stood I was only in a few inches of water, just in case I fell out. The next time was a deep water stand up and was able to cast well and set the hook on a couple of fish. Have not tried to fly fish while standing yet. I just saw and add from Ozark Mountain and they are selling last year's model at $695.00.

You are welcome. Hope we do see each other on the river. If you see me don't be afraid stop by and say hi. Or even save my number and if you ever need fishing buddy one weekend maybe get together do a little fishing sometime!

I have been obsessing over, and studying the new Old Town Predator 13 since it came out last year.. It IS big and heavy, and it's no racer, but if you're looking for one you can stand in and fly fish, it look's hard to beat. There is also a different 12' model. There are dozens of articles and reviews out there.

Have enjoyed my Jackson Big Tuna. Thought it was the best 1 man / 2 man option for fishing. Hi - lo seats, very stable & handles well with 1 or 2.

Good luck with your search & purchase.

Be aware that anything over 10' will not maneuver like the shorter one or like a solo canoe. The longer one will track better than either of them however.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
