Ice must be getting thinner. I am seeing some dead shad under it. Not a lot just here and there. In the last twenty minute 30 minute a hole has opened up a couple hundred yards long and half that wide.and its advancing fast. Nice but we are going we are going into another real cold period.

The wind and waves are pushing dead shad up on the remaining ice. The eagles and seagulls and crows are having a field day. Yesterday, I had 4 golden eagles sitting on the edge of the ice waiting for shad to be blow into them. Today most of that ice is gone and the birds are spread out more.

I am totally flabbergasted. i really expected a problem this year with all the Ice. everything out there right now is just dissolving. there are some cove sized chunks, but you can see the waves passing under them. i am so relieved. The big sheets are really nothing more than a big bunch of thick slush.

Yep we may have dodged the bullet. Glad to hear that you have no problems. Bring on them dang ole crappie, it has been a long winter here at the lake.

I live in a condo near the glaize bridge inside the glaize arm. Yesterday, the entire lake that I can see from my 4th floor unit was covered in ice. Today, I do not see any ice.

Did u say golden eagles? Juvenile bald eagles?

Yep goldens. In the past few years we have seen several around the lake. I have had 2 most of the winter, and 2 more has joined them just this week. We also have bald and juvenile bald eagles in addition to ospreys. With the ice gone I would imagine to start seeing some loons. Loz is getting to be quite the winter over spot birds of prey.
