Feathers and Fins Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 I have said it before I love a windy day on Beaver... But I would like to put a qualifier with that. I DO NOT LIKE HURRICANE FORCE WINDS! Started out on the same spot I have been beating them up all week at 9:30ish all was wonderful in Whoville, 5 schoolie stripers 12 to 15lb fish bit right off the bat, I was having so much fun with the whites earlier I went out to where they have been and put 10 to 15 in the boat pretty fast. I had marked some crappie so I went after them but Grinch south wind was blowing and they didn't bite. Nick was coming out and Doc had already got there. ( side note ) First time I have seen his boat since the rebuild and it looks sharps!) Anyway we all went out to play with the white who apparently the Grinch scared away! They were no longer schooled up but scattered bad and not in the mood to eat. I ran over to Blackburn and not a dang thing! Ran back to Monte Ne and guess what the Wall was up and the evil Grinch couldn't blow in there, Put a small Black in the boat and then 3 crappie, Doc told me he found more so I ran over.... Um Doc need to get a better graph lol they were gizzard shad but big. So we went back over to where I got crappie an I picked up 2 more and another small bass. All in all tough day due to wind, but hey it was fun getting on the water none the less. I did do some graphing of Historic Monte Ne for fun and here is some of the shots. J-Doc Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Nick caught like 14. They outfished me for sure. I had 2 small bites all day. Still had fun though. Need marine repair? hoglaw Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Going to try to get out there tomorrow. I've heard some good crappie reports recently but I feel like they'll be more affected by this little cold front. Wind should be down tomorrow. You think the stripers will still be there or are they moving upstream? I'd love to get my fiancee on a 10lb striper. I feel like we have to give this deal a chance. Probably won't get out there until noon. Anyone else going to be out there? I need to hit south town for lures on the way. Hope they have what we need!
Feathers and Fins Posted February 23, 2014 Author Posted February 23, 2014 Kyle, they have been there for a week straight I don't know any reason they would move out other than they are fish and do what they want lol. I would go to HLS in Rogers and get the Flicker shad it wont take you but a few extra minutes if you plan to troll them up and get some white spoons, don't ask why in that stained water they want "white'' for some reason. Same with the crappie! My only guess is the shad die-off they are so keyed in on them. The cold front today is why I went yesterday I was fearful the bite might shut down because of it and the wind is blowing right now. I wont be there got me a date with my wife https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
J-Doc Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 It's not just any white spoon either. I tried that. Didn't work. They want a specific spoon. Short fat profile. I tried to match but it wasn't working for me. Nick was behind me and they caught a good mess. He may have been live baiting though. I could see that working too. Need marine repair? Stump bumper Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Did anyone try a fluke? With all they dying shad seems like a nose down fluke bounced off the bottom might get a few. Then again it seems you have to almost put it in their mouth when there is so much easy to catch food around.
npierceuark Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 We ended with 14 for saturday 4-5 stripes and the rest whites all nice and chunky. White spoons with red noses. Really tough to stay on the small schools with the wind. We earned every fish, no gimmes that day. Sunday was a bit easier. Ran up river a ways and got into the crappie, no monsters but 15 fish with a bonus eye in the mix. Crappie were holding on timber in 15 fow down about 6 feet. caught em on any color jig we threw.
J-Doc Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Nope. No one tried the fluke that I know of. But every fish caught was a fluke if that helps. Lol Need marine repair?
