does anyone know much about fishing for hybrids and walleye at ha ha tonka this time of year? do you need a boat or can a guy walk to the island? and would you recommend live bait or soft plastics and jerk baits? thanks in advance, people have been very helpful the last couple of years i have used this forum and i greatly appreciate all the good info. i also look forward to sharing any info that might be useful to any other avid fisherman like myself.

Out of about 10 trips to HHT I hit it right ONCE. Hybrids are incredibly fickle, ya just never know when to go and where to concentrate your efforts.

They play by no rules whatsoever. None that I can decipher anyway.

The guys that walk/wade the bank seem to do just as well, if not better, than the ones in boats.

I'm not sure when the last stocking was either but I suspect it has been quite awhile, so if you do hook up with one it's prolly gonna be a biggun.

It is such a small area that boat noise can kill the whole fishing trip. People pull in there like they are after spawning crappie and ruin it for everyone. During good weather, families with kids are waking the shoreline and throwing rocks at invisible objects. People that are up by the castle, are rolling rocks over the embankment that sound like a gun going off when they hit the water next to the bluffs. This is extremely dangerous for boaters and hikers near the tail out. Another dangerous and loud event is when the 6 foot icicles start falling from the overhanging cliffs. I have been and seen it all, and like FW says, it usually is not worth the trip.
