The first thing I thought about was mosquitoes. It was the second and third things I thought about, also. My wife and I went ice-fishing by sled dog a few years ago in March. No mosquitoes.

Do a fly-in somewhere. Just once... you'll be hooked. Screw paddlin' and portaging. Plenty of good deals out there. PM me for my favorite, but if you're interested better hurry.

You could probably do it yourself for around $200-250 including gas if you share a vehicle and have all the gear you need. It was only $208 dollars per man on our trip to the St. Croix this year. 1 truck, 2 canoes, 4 guys..Paid for the shuttle, food, and a hotel room in Grantsburg, WI one night...maybe another $50 for meals on the road, plus cocktails.
