duckydoty Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 A little slower for the keeper crappies today in the Flat Creek area. Started fishing around 10 and thought it would be the perfect day to catch a whole mess of crappie up in Flat Creek. I was wrong. Caught lots and lots of shorts but only managed 7 keepers today. Caught another 14-15 inch small mouth today. Ventured out onto the James River Arm looking for the big crappie. Only found 1 out there, but did find a bunch of small white bass. Big school of them in 22 feet of water. They kept me setting the hook for a while. Might get back out and try again this weekend. That or back to Taney? tho1mas Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Do the females hang back in the lake like they do in B.Shoals (around Cedar Creek or #39?
duckydoty Posted March 6, 2014 Author Posted March 6, 2014 The males usually come in first. especially the young small ones. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
BATCAB27 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Thanks for your reports Ducky. I'll be heading that way sunday
Champ188 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Very generous indeed of you to share your crappie intel, Ducky. That's what makes this such a great forum.
MeatintheFreezer Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 while you were out today did you see the water temp come up any? Just like everyone else, I certainly do appreciate your reports. Your crappie pics this week along with the worst bout of cabin fever I have ever had will undoubtedly cause be to sneak out of work early Friday and hit the water. Remember - If at first you DO succeed, try not to act surprised & quit while you're ahead.
duckydoty Posted March 6, 2014 Author Posted March 6, 2014 I do not have a temp gauge but I'm sure the temps did rise as the day went on. Flat Creek above the bridge was frozen again this morning with ice that was about 1/2 thick. Around 3 this afternoon most of it was gone and that is where I caught the small mouth. KCRIVERRAT Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Ducky, it was great to see you again down on Taney. With this weather we're gonna get I'd head up Flat Creek or the James further than ya think you need to go for some early crappie. I used to fish the creeks coming into Truman years ago and got surprised many times catching early spawners. But you know the deal bro. Have fun in AK.
