I find that use two lures quite often while fishing, spinnerbaits and lipless crankbaits. I find I can cover a lot of water very quickly. I understand that I may miss some fish when moving fast like that, but I do slow down when I find em biting and slow my roll :-) What are your favorite Spinnerbaits and Lipless Cranks?

Spinnerbait:

Rick Clunn Trickster

Booyah dual willow

Lipless Crank:

XCalibur xr50

RedEye Shad

*honorable mention goes to H20 express (from academy $2)

I like the original 1/2oz. Bill Lewis Rattle trap when buzzing it on shallow flats and smacking logs (electric red, chrome/blue).

But for slower work I've been sold on the Red eye shad.

Spinnerbaits: a 3/8 tandem Colorado, or a 3/8 single #5 willow. (White/gold)

Bitethis,

The absolute all around in any water or temperature best Spinnerbait I have ever used is a Purple Shad Pattern. It has a White Big Willow and a Gold small Willow. Don't actually know why this one is so popular with the fish but they sure love it. Next in line for Dirty water is some kind of Chartreuse or Chartreuse Firetiger. Third would be a Flashy kind of White. If you are night fishing then a Black N Red Neon with a large Colorado blade in matching color can't possibly be beat. Add a huge Black Neon trailer to slow it down even more. If the Bass are spawning and the Bluegill are eating their eggs/fry then a Bluegill pattern with a Gold blade is awesome. The Spinnerbaits I use are custom made.....the only way to go!! Sizes???? Depends on the wind and depth you are fishing. Heavier baits can really pay off.

I have heard that purple is a very good color, but I have avoided despite the wisdom shared...I may have to get that into my color collection this year and tinker with it. Thanks Walcrabass

Bitethis,

Purple Shad isn't really a "purple color". It does have some strands of a violet or wild looking blue in it but it is primarily a Shad looking pattern. I have some thoughts that the fish like it because it appeals in so many ways. A big White Blade, small gold blade, and dark colors ( Purple), along with Shad colors. It might be kind of like a smorgasbord for the fish. One thing is for sure, Spinnerbait time is only 10 or fifteen water degrees away.

War Eagle Blue Herrin. I have never fished with it and not caught keeper fish. Me and my body both slay the largemouth with these.

Is this one of your homemade colors, or is there a particular manufacturer that produces this spinnerbait?

Bitethis,

I believe there are several manufacturers that make a "Purple Shad" kind of color. I have seen them in a couple of different brands. If you pm me I can give you the guys name that makes mine. I don't think there are any better ones to tie on.

Ive had pretty good luck with the sk burner in blue back herring and blue glimmer shad, hard to beat the red eye or xcalliber xr50 I lean toward the red eye in cooler water. I fish the strip pits around Columbus quite a bit n the red eye shad in gold black back has saved the day more than once!

I agree with wrench on the original Bill Lewis Rattle Trap and my go to color is the blue/chrome but i like the red eye in the red shad color I believe they call it. I throw a 1/2oz War Eagle Trokar spinner bait in the mouse color with the nickel over gold willow leaf blades with a white split tail trailer w/blue tips.
