ollie
What a lousy day for anything. Rainy, wet, damp and cloudy overcast day. Perfect for trout fishing! When I got up I had things I had to do around the house and most of them were outside so I took the wife out for breakfast and decided to make a plan for the day. Since it was raining out and the things I needed to do around the house were outside, I was able to convince her I needed to just go fishing instead. It worked! Those kind of days are the best for trout fishing IMO. I didn't get down to Capps until around 11:30 and probably didn't get a lure wet until about noon. Went to the lower end and walk upstream hitting all the holes which I thought might hold fish. Zero, nada, zilch. When I got to the parking lot there was a couple of guys leaving that had 4 on the stringer so I know they had to have stocked at one point fairly soon. I sure didn't find them in all the usual places though. First one to hand came out of a hole I rarely fish so I tried to fish those kinds of holes the rest of the day. Second fish to hand was a chubby largemouth that went around 10-12". After fishing other holes that I thought might be stocked I gave up on since I wasn't even getting a bite. Did catch a nice brown and a smallie to boot further downstream however to round out the day. Also had a nice brown around 16" get off in another hole I rarely fish. I think if I had stuck around some more I could have caught a few more browns. They seemed to be really hungry when the rain comes. Ended up the day with 2 bows, one brown, one smallie, one largemouth, and a couple of goggle eyes. "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek! Johnsfolly
Ollie - Nice fish. Here are a couple of brown trout that I caught in Capp's creek back in the middle of April. I missed a giant (>20 inches) brown and lost another big brown on that same day. I fished through driving rain at times and lost a fair amount of tackle to the overhanging brush. All in all a good day.
