Lighting is easy to DIY, check out youtube on the subject. Nice kayak...

I kayak Stockton lots, usually in the cedar ridge area or near Aldrich. Main channel can get ugly quick, would avoid. I agree with the flag idea. A bike trailer flag and a paddle with orange blades helps the boys in bass rigs see you, and if you do wander near the channel I would get highly visible. Yaks are easy to overlook when you are not expecting them, and there are well documented cases of collisions (even with visibility enhancers like bike flags, etc).

Fishing from yaks is a ball. Smallmouth stream fishing is a great time, and the white run is fun from a yak. Springfield lake bassin' and carpin' are fun too. I am sure you will find your favorite variation soon enough. I think you are gonna like your purchase!

I appreciate the awesome advise guys. When it comes time for me to venture out on the lake I'm going to go all out with lighting. I might as well since I will already have the bat for a fish finder. I figure a red/green light up front and a clear pole on the back just like a boat.

I went out on my second float with it the other day from Taylor's bridge to Orleans bridge and a little ways around d the corner. For being 6'6 320ish pounds plus gear I cannot explain enough how stable the ride 115 is. So amazing. Little sac was my first trip in it fishing. That very night I installed an anchor trolly system. The rod holders are so expensive but they are needed and I also need scupper plugs. Did manage to catch a few whites once we got to Orleans bridge.

I'm addicted already. I've got a cable lock running through a scupper hole to the d ring on my truck so I just leave the yak in there all he time. Wake up in the morning and kiss the wife and daughter goodbye before they even wake up. :)

Another thing I find outrageously expensive. $200 for a rudder. I never imagined I needed one until even small gusts of winds were turning me. A rudder will be very last in my list. I will have a hummingbird piranhamax and scupper transducer and all kinds of rod holders before I ever buy that rudder.

You mentioned scupper plugs. I don't know how big the ones on your kayak are, but you can probably go to Walmart or Academy and get a package of those foam practice golf balls. Poke a piece of poly rope through them and you have scupper plugs for cheap.

Rick, Congrats on the new Rig. I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but if it were me I would take it out fishing several times before you start modifying.

I think what you will find is by doing that you will learn things like:

Where its more comfortable to set your rods when paddling, fishing, holding in a current, catching a fish.

Also, learning what gear you need within arms reach and how to best place it, cooler, tackle box, camera, etc....

What I learned was thus method made me simplify my set up in my canoe. Instead of adding too much it allowed me to know exactly what I needed.

Just a suggestion... good luck!

That's solid, common sense advice right there. Figure out the pros and cons of your boat before you pimp it out.

Scott, I seen something about the golf balls on a forum. Thanks for reminding me. Will try that out.

Ness, your avatar looks familiar. I'm hiddenhoneyhole in mwt.

Glory. I agree 100%. I've already found I'm not interested in reaching behind me for rod holders. I don't even like reaching behind me for my paddle holder. I think two rod holders on the sliding tracks is all I will ever need. After the first trip out fishing in it that very night I rigged up an anchor trolly line and some short peices of cord to attach my small tackle and dry boxes. I won't cut or drill any holes in this yak until I'm for certain it's something I need.

I found this picture. It's kinda what I'd like mine to look like. Fish finder. Sliding rod holders. Better paddle holder. :)

Have any of you guys ever camped with a hammock. Like a Hennessy or eagles nest outfitters? I'm thinking on purchasing the eno doublenest. Sure would save a lot of weight and room on a kayak camping trip.

I'm gonna tell you right now those rod holders just get in the way, especially if you have one rod in one when you are using another. It's easier to just put some rod stagers on your front hatch like they did on this Coosa. I usually put my rods in between my legs and rest them on the front of the kayak. This will be my next addition to my kayak because I'm always scared of my rods falling off when I'm paddling or trying to land a fish (I usually use 2 at a time on my kayak)
