Quillback Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Just when you think you've got them figured out, they throw you a curve ball. Or maybe it's the weather change that is at fault, it sure was nice weather today compared to yesterday. Caught 7 bass, 3 came right away on the 1st bank I fished, then I spend the next 5 hours fishing to get 4 more. The K's seem to have left for parts unknown today. A couple of decent fish, a 3 lber being biggest. Again on the tube, though I did try a jerk bait, crank, and the Ned rig. The bass this year in the White channel seem to be bigger on average than last year. There was a strong class of 13-14" LM's last year and I believe the survivors from that group are now in the 15-17" range. Water temps 43-47.
kjackson Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Thanks for the report, Quill. I'm headed out tomorrow somewhere. I was thinking Beaver or the river but maybe the best bet would be to launch at Eagle Rock and head downstream a bit. If I'm a good boy and get my taxes done this weekend, I may hit it Monday as well. Of course, that depends upon the snow...
Quillback Posted March 20, 2014 Author Posted March 20, 2014 Are you targeting wallies or bass? Alex had some wallie type activity on the A--rig yesterday, tails nipped off of flukes, holes in same. I think there's some wallies on some of the rocky points off cove mouths. No one seems to be targeting them, not that there's a lot of them, but there are some.
kjackson Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Thanks for the info. After this winter, I'm after absolutely anything that will bite and pull. I definitely would think seriously about walleyes...haven't caught one of them since I was in Minnesota two years ago.
Alex Heitman Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 My dad and I had a pretty tough day today too up long creek. The fish fought a lot harder than they have been but we only ended up with about 11 fish and we started at 10 am and off the water at 6
Hazbin Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Hey Quill I think I saw you today around Carter, I least it was a black/silver Phoenix with one person in it. I had a total of 4 hits on Arig and no fish. My partner was throwing 5" tube and caught 5 with one that would go about 3 1/2. I was throwing a 3" tube on a 3/8 jig and never got a bite. I also threw jerk and not a thing. We targeted a lot of brush piles from Emerald Beach to Rock Creek and not a thing!. 51° up in Rock Creek, most of the other water we found at about 44 to 47°. I was riding shotgun today and I guess I just didn't have the touch, I saw that 6 of Alex's I didn't want to give up on the Rig. I would say you had a pretty decent day considering what we experienced.
duckydoty Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Thanks for the reports guys. Makes me not feel quite as bad about working right next to the lake today. Kept thinking about how I wanted to be on the water today. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners

Pepe Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 We mixed sin some work and play but had, what we feel was a good day for about 6 hours of fishing. We caught 14 bass with 5 keepers (4 of them Lily's), mostly on 1/2 oz football jigs with purple heads and craw colored skirts & trailers. I did catch 2 fish on one of the tubes you sent. Thanks, QB! All our fish came off steep banks in 14-25 ft. Better fish were deepest. Slooow dragging it and then the fish was "just there" on a heavy feel. We visited with friends over dinner and are looking forward to nice weather tomorrow.

Good idea on the big 5" tube, that's something I should try as the fish get more aggressive.
