ozarkgunner Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 For that price I would buy a falcon low rider and a Lews reel. Angler At Law
dtrs5kprs Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Found the Falcon to be a little stiff for the wart. Might just be me. Bought one of the 4-166 many years ago. Hard to get it to load up right with the wart, pulled the hooks out of a lot of fish. Seems like the Falcons are a little underrated across the line. They used to make a 3 power that would do, especially in the Original blank. Little more forgiving. It is a big step up in $$$ but the Cara Weightless Worm rod feels right for warts and sticks whenever I pick it up. For me it is too much $$$ unless you crank a lot, and am not a big fan of split grips for fast baits. My preferred wart rod is an old All Star Zell Rowland TW rod. It is soon to be a genuine antique. Also good for sticks, and TW obviously. Newer versions, have the same issue as the Falcon. It is moving into that big pile of rods I am afraid of breaking, and can't imagine throwing out.
REDSOXWSCHAMP Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN THE LEWS RODS AND REELS ARE MADE HERE IN SPRINGFIELD,MO SOMEONE PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG
Old plug Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 dtrs------- I have necer heard of such a thing a as a weightless worm rod. what is suppose to be the advantage of that. ????
dtrs5kprs Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN THE LEWS RODS AND REELS ARE MADE HERE IN SPRINGFIELD,MO SOMEONE PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG Distributed in Springfield, is more accurate. This has been one of the ongoing questions about the new Lew's. Even saw someone get all over Pete Wenners after he did a video tour of Lews in Springfield. Hard to pinpoint where they are made. Seems like it is the place where a lot of folks decide to turn their nose up at them. Frankly, I don't care where they build them. They work, and at a decent price point. Shimano, Daiwa, etc., sure are not made here either. It would be great to buy American, but that ship sailed overseas with labor, taxes, government interference (all levels), and liability costs many years ago. Will take major changes before it sails back.
REDSOXWSCHAMP Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I DONT CARE WHERE THEY ARE MADE EITHER, THEY WORK, AND THEY AREN'T AN OVERPRICED G.LOOMIS
dtrs5kprs Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 dtrs------- I have necer heard of such a thing a as a weightless worm rod. what is suppose to be the advantage of that. ???? Plug...Falcon started making one for guys who wanted to throw trick worms, wacky rigged senkos, flukes, etc., on a casting rod. It is a nice feeling rod regardless of the intended purpose. Hard to describe the blank, reminds me of a couple of GLX's that came with my Ranger. It fits into that list of rods you just have to pick up. They almost catch me whenever I pick one up, kind of like puppies. I try not to touch either. There is a lot to be had by making the most of rod tapers and actions for particular purposes. Just depends on what you want to do. It is the old golf club analogy. Right club for the shot.
fishingaddiction Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Spend your BPS gift cards on a BPS Med action 7' crankin stick paired with a pro qualifier 5.3:1 ratio reel. This set up will provide the right action for wart fishing, but may be too light for larger and harder pulling cranks. May need to consider the MH 7' crankin stick. Would prefer Lews reel, but for the money the pro qualifier on sale is a good deal. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
Members Teddy Posted March 26, 2014 Members Posted March 26, 2014 All my casting rods/reels are Lews. I would highly recomend them!!!
