cpriest Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 I ended going out for about an hour at twin. Water still muddy. Found a couple in an eddy above the bridge, but really need the water to clean up.
Guest Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Let's hope it drizzles next time it rains. If this flood pattern starts up again, it's going to be tough. The water clears up on top when it's muddy underneath. I like that color water up the white
JohnF52 Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Only caught four keeper white bass today, all females. Same place. One of them was spawned out, others full of eggs. Visibility is improved somewhat from yesterday.
JohnF52 Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 The main source of persistent muddy water in upper Beaver Lake is West Fork of white river. Visibility in Middle Fork and the East Fork above Lake Sequoyah is better than 30 inches today. West Fork about five inches just above its mouth. It provides less than one fifth of the flow but nearly all the persistent muddiness. I suspect someone is gravel mining or some other activity that muddies the water. I wonder if anyone at the state level has investigated?
Feathers and Fins Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Thanks to Nick for a tip I ran up the river today, 39 crappie 27 were bucks and im still trying to figure out how a 4 inch crappie eats a #9 Flicker Shad, what the hell was he thinking? 8 walleye 5 Shorts but 3 came home for oil bath and spa they were very shallow 6fow to 12 fow on flats and biting the #6 and 7 flicker shad in pearl white and what I caught the bass on see below. 4 stripers if you can call them that at that size 9 LMB 2.5 to 6lb Picked them up trying a new jig to me the Rapala Jigging rap. Ive been seeing these for a while and bought some they have real nice erratic action. Bass were 8 to 15 fow on little pockets on the flats ( why there ) ? Thanks Nick for the tip, it paid off, unfortunately wife saw walleye and called dibs.... Jason want to try taking that from her lol. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
M_Taylor Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Nice day F&F. I had every intention to having a day half as good as yours, but a mechanical issue that was supposed to have been fixed had me cranking up the boat by hand at 8am. Sigh. My wife was happy with the chores I got done around the house though.
Feathers and Fins Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 If it hadn't been for Nick and his tip I would have probably called it an early day the wind was brutal, but I know a few spots upriver that are semi-protected and it sounded like fish were there so I went. I am glad it paid off OAF members helping each other out. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
npierceuark Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Glad it panned out well for ya Scott. We ended with 18 keeper size whites Saturday between 8am and noon. Had a handful of shortys and couple small stripes as well. Very sporadic though, no one spot provided more than 3 fish, we picked them up off all types of structure, depths and baits. Saw a few guys that did well with the crappie but didn't have a chance to chase them as my dad was preoccupied with catching some chunky whites. Saw one gentleman pull out a monster hybrid that he caught on a live crawdad. Fought the fish for a good 10 minutes on ultralight gear. Sunday was much slower for me and it seemed the case for most of the others I spoke with. We will see what this week brings after this major cold snap.
bferg Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 So what is going on with this run? I can't figure out if is just getting started or if it is almost over?? Any thoughts?
npierceuark Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I am wondering the same thing, water temps have not maintained the 60+ temps that the fish prefer but I have been noticing some groups doing their dance in the shallows. We caught whites and hybrids up till mid may in the arms last year and I see this year being the same. I have not caught a female that has dumped her eggs so we should be good for another couple weeks especially with this cold rain
