fishingaddiction Posted March 29, 2014 Author Posted March 29, 2014 The only down side I could see by mounting up on the front skid pad is the lack of room up there. The Skeeter front is not very wide up there, and is a good place to step when enter the boat after launching. I think the Ranger has more area up there. If it's not too much trouble send me a pic of your set up. Thx Born to Fish. Forced to Work.

dtrs5kprs Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Pics of the Ranger bow mount. Graph is my antique X15.
fishingaddiction Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 Thanks for the pics. Looks like a great set up for your boat. I am leaning towards mounting the RAM on the deck close to the center possibly in front of the trolling motor pedal. Thanks for everyones input. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
Seth Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I have a 728 mounted on a small RAM mount on my front deck. That unit is the same size as the 597. My boat is a flat bottom and not a V so it may not really help you out much with your install. Here is a picture of my unit on the bow.
fishingaddiction Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 Thanks Seth. I had a 728 that I used for a few years, and it is great finder. Went to the 597 for color, maps, and down imaging. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
Members shipper Posted March 31, 2014 Members Posted March 31, 2014 seems like the guys on here have some good ideas-yes I was referring to the mount in the pic and making one similar. I have found on my boat that making brackets and the like are easier and many times more durable. For instance on seth's boat the trolling motor bracket is a simple piece of bent alum. I have one similar on my boat. Just an idea. Good luck
Seth Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Thanks Seth. I had a 728 that I used for a few years, and it is great finder. Went to the 597 for color, maps, and down imaging. I like it as well. I'd like to upgrade it to a 788ci hd or an 859ci so that I can network it with an ethernet cable to the 998c hdsi I installed at the console. Being able to mark brush piles on my SI unit and sharing them with the bow unit would really come in handy when fishing brush piles for crappie. Trying to triangulate the brush and stay on it when you are out in the middle of nowhere can be a bit of a hassle.

When I do finally upgrade to a 859ci, I will probably install some 1/4-20 rivet nuts to my deck and use one of the Dek-It or Kick'n Bass type mounts as well. You won't get any sturdier than that. With that said, I have a 2.25" short RAM mount for the 998c at my console and it's rock solid when tightened down. It's nice to have the adjustment, but I don't think that's as much of an issue on the bow as it is for me at the console. Plus I like being able to turn the console graph around to face the bow so I can still run SI off the back and keep an eye on it in case I troll over some brush or something that's off to the side of the bow 2D.
