fishinwrench Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I'm not into jug or drift fishing either. I've had decent success casting and dragging cut shad/gills on long sloping points and drops just like you would a Carolina rig. I never seem to get into really huge cats, but 3-10 lbers are usually what I'm looking for anyway.
nomolites Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I have to say I catch a LOT of blues unintentionally these days; some really biguns trolling crankbaits. Like Plug says I see a lot come off flats on spoons and other lures and I'm sure dragging shad will work even better. They will suspend over deep water wherever the thermocline is holding and the shad are and will positively hammer a trolled plug. Find the shad, and the blues will be there, but a flat intersecting the thermocline in summertime in the evening is positively dynamite.
